best shortie headers

Right now I have heddman shorties and the small 2.5" y pipe it came with.

Is there a better set of shorties I can buy that have a 3" y pipe?

Re: best shortie headers

do you mean 3" outlet size or a 3" pipe going from one side to the other?

as far as i know, a shorty setup with a 3" pipe going from the driver-side and connecting to the passenger-side does not exist, and i dont think the 3" pipe would fit in the stock location anyway.

as far as 3" outlet size there are may different ones, i know edelbrock has them, SLP has them as well, though the y-pipe is a dual 2.25" that merges into a 3". hooker, and most likely headman as well as others

thats what mine does it goes from 2.5" to 3inches.

I was seeing if there was a y-pipe that was all 3inches but ive been looking and no one makes them. Guess Im stuck with what I got.

Are the hooker shorties better then my heddmans? I dont need any emission as of right now i have no cat.

Re: best shortie headers

the only differences are maybe quality, usually headman has 5/16 header flanges, hooker usually has 3/8, bla bla bla.

You would probably not be able to notice the slightest performance differente between the two. Only other way to go it longtubes

A 3" dual y-pipe wont fit under the car. My dad has a 2 3/4" dual y-pipe setup under his car, non-lowered, and it just barely fits.

Re: best shortie headers

I just bought a set of SLP shorties and Y pipe used off another member. So look around, you can still find them.

Re: best shortie headers

slp shorty 1 3/4 headers are the ones to keep an eye out for. However, they do not make them for our cars anymore. I have a set of Edelbrock 1 5/8 on my car and they are not bad. Right now since I have a 383 and wanting to opening up the exhaust, I am toying with the idea of LT and maybe trual duals.

Re: best shortie headers

IMHO Dyno Don makes the best 1 3/4" shorty header on the market. Raised exhaust port so there are no restrictions. A full 2 1/2 inch on the collector.

Again I have not been impressed with the Edelbrock headers. Saw a set today that had 1 1/2" on the outside cylinders and 1 5/8" pipes on the inside.

The question is about a dual 3" y-pipe, not a 3" intermediate pipe.
