Edelbrock back to Stock

id like to tear out my headers and revert back to stock manifolds. i've got an 86 t/a LG4. i dont have the stockers.

my question is, what will fit? are 3rd gen manifolds universal, is there a specific year range that may fit my car? let me know guys, thanks!

Any 3rd gen V8 exhaust manifold will fit the heads and in the frame.

L69, LB9, and L98 are the best ones out there.

Why do you want to take this step backwards?

Re: Edelbrock back to Stock

since the days of Nor Cal's Tahoe '06, my car's been suffering from no-starts because of heat soak from the headers. ive done everything from install a hi-perf. starter/ (which was a disaster), buying starter heatshilelds, and wraps to dealing with exhaust leaks from bolts coming loose. from there, buying 45 dollar locking header bolts and they still come loose. so i give up. im tired of getting stuck.

this car is my DD which is probably a bad idea to begin with lol. but its what ive got for now until i get my 91 running. I may just use my 91's exhaust system in the mean time. unless the dual cat set up doesnt allow for it.

Technically dual cats aren't legal on an '86. Whether Herr Inspektor will notice that, anybody's guess.

I solved my heat start problems by installing a remote solenoid. Amazing difference. Don't try it with a permanent magnet mini-starter, though - I experienced unpleasant results when doing that.

Re: Edelbrock back to Stock

i tried that and it seemed to work, but there were some other electrical issues so i had to remove it. i MIGHT try that again. im still pissed about losing a 5 dollar exhaust bolt on the road.

and i wouldnt want the dual cats, im not sure how far back i can use the 91's exhaust. like if i can couple those manifolds to an 86's y-pipe

You can fit the manifolds to an LB9 y-pipe, but not LG4. The other problems you're going to have are the LG4 requires the heat stove for the air cleaner thermovac system, and the EFE valve on the passenger side manifold. L69 system solves both of those.

Let me save you some time

A few weeks back I was considering alternative for headers. Reason been.. HEAT... (SEE LINK BELOW)

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exha...ml#post3482041.

I have the edelbrock TES headers. When I fitst got then, I install them, without any thermal coating (BIG MISTAKE). Not only they where hot, but they were also rusting out. Needless to say, I had then JET HOT COATED. It made a difference, and stop the rusting (for a while).

At the beggining I had the terrible problem of Leaks.. really bad. I purchase those self locking boltr with the c-clip... I have to say I was not satisfied.. Then I change wot ARP Nut and stud set up... It made a big difference.. and the add lock tide.. and problem almost gone!

As for the starter... I had to THEMO TEC wrap it... It help... But still got the problem.. I have played with the mixture and enrichen it, wich made a big difference. Something that helped here was to change th battery connectors to the classic set up.. Also, making sure that the car had a good ground (-).

Hope this help!
