Re: Tell me about Flowmaster cat back

I've always liked mine, even on the V6 cars. Nice sound, better power than stock. It doesn't seem to hold back the car with additional mods. People can argue flow numbers all day but the time slips from the track don't lie; mine was so good I will buy another.

Some cheap barbecue black or barbecue silver hi-temp spray paint takes care of the rust problem.

Re: Tell me about Flowmaster cat back

I bought my first flowmaster setup from a wrecked 86 T/A so I didn't price shop!

I like the original style exits with the pipes on either side like factory. I also like the sound. I would run one of the other setups if I find a used one to try first! I hate to pay money for parts that I haven't personally seen first!

Re: Tell me about Flowmaster cat back

Ive also got a 3" american thunder FMs, with 1-5/8 shorty headers, and a 3" highflow cat. I love it. Pros are the sound, and improved performance. Yes I felt a difference, and saw 6-7 tenths in the 1/4mile, improvement. Only other add-ons were a crane fireball ignition (stock distibuter), and a K&N. Its a stock L03. Cons are you have to listen to everyone who buys the other exhausts tell you how much flowmasters suck. Im all about the sound. And when I change engines, and go with dual 3" exhaust, itll have dual highflow cats, and flowmasters, with turndowns. Cant beat that sound.

Re: Tell me about Flowmaster cat back

Flowmaster 80 series isnt that loud but can be if you dont have a cat and have a worked up motor. on my L98 with cat it wasnt that bad. I since then went to a straight thru chambered tube style muffler and NO cat and its loud but nice sounding. I saw little in performance gain if any!

Everyone knocks flowmaster as flow crapper but for a mild motor, its MORE than enough. My stock TPI car with just headers/gears/2800 stall went 100mph in the 1/4 mile on street tires running 13.9s on average. chambered tube i saw similar times, and possibly abit less mph in the 1/8! more flow less restriction kinda kills your torque on these cars. They need some back pressure to help scavenge the exhaust

Re: Tell me about Flowmaster cat back

I've had the Flowmaster 80 muffler only for years to love the sound. I still want to get the 3" Catback system though.

Re: Tell me about Flowmaster cat back

My experiences with flowmaster is only from the perspective on an LS1 series motor. In that sense they're known for bad flow, bad drone, but not a bad sound.

Personally I'm a Dynomax fan.
