Not sure where to go.

Ok Im planning on doing my exhaust system done when i have my quarters welded in.(Both i need to drive about 2 hours to have done So i figured id do it all in one trip.) But im going with a true dual set up. I will be running headers but not sure on what yet then flow master mufflers. But my question is...

Should i go with 2.5 or 3 inch pipe?. Ground clearance isn't an issue but i don't know if 3" is over kill.

And also X-Pipes and H-pipes. What are they exactly for?. Should i have one put in? if so which?

Re: Not sure were to go.

Well you better figure out if your going to run shorty ot long tube headers first. And yes ground clearance might be an issue espcially ruuning true duals. And 2-1/2 is plenty for a 305 dont go any bigger. And you might want to figure what kind of flowmaster mufflers your going to use and get all this laid out because it isnt just slap it all together and your done.

Re: Not sure were to go.

unless you're planning on upgrading that engine, stick with a single 3". H pipes and x pipes help with exhaust gas timing and extraction. This will help keep the exhaust pressure and pulses equalized and timed which will help the flow of exhaust and improving scavenging which will clear the cylinder more efficiently of exhaust gases and helps with more complete combustion and flow. So all in all, you will gain more hp, but lose torque. I got duals and dont have one.

im going with a true dual set up
Why?

Do you just enjoy wasting money on things that don't work very well?

A 3" single cat-back is all you need for a 305, AND THEN SOME. That's something you can just buy and slap on yourself. There's no benefit to be had with the "true dual" mistake.

In fact, if you buy GOOD QUALITY headers, as opposed to just the cheeeeeepest thing you can find that has the word "headers" somewhere in the ad copy, they'll come with a Y-pipe THAT FITS both the headers and the car. Then you can buy a cat, that fits the headers, the car, and the cat-back. All of that togehter, will cost you less, run better AND FIT BETTER than any "custom" "true dual" crap you can get made.

Re: Not sure were to go.

Im planning on running either a Super 44 or a super 40 not really sure which is a better muffler.

As for headers I will be running Long tubes.. I thought i had put that in the original post but i apparently forgot. I haven't decided on what header yet im still shopping around for one.

Then I'm going with a High flow cat. haven't decided what... Not really sure what to look for I figure anything is alright for this...

But As for cost wise. Most of the cat backs... These are just cat backs... that I've found are $200-$400..On top of another $200-well crap summit has some headers for $489 for my car... So add just that up. $400-$849... And thats just using ball parks from Summit... Now What i plan on doing is buying a set of headers around the $200-$300 range. or Used if i can find a nice pair. Then the Mufflers are around $85 a piece from summit it was $82 i think.. How ever ill buy them from a local shop here. Then highflow cats... ones i looked at were about $60. So Right now im looking at $590. And the pipe will be fully tig welded. and free. Well not free. Im Rebuilding his trailer for him. Replacing all of the wood, hardware, repainting it, and putting the winch i had on my old truck onto it for him.

So I figure for $590 Max... Possibly quite less if i can buy used headers.I could have the mufflers i want, The improved power, and have it all done for a weekend of my time a trip to home depot, and a trip to the school paint booth.

And for the people who say its a waste of money at least im not going to Mijer and buying 6 or so pieces of there crappy exhaust pipe, some cherrybomb turbos from there and mig welding it all up. Having it come from the manifold straight into the muffler and dump before it even hits the door...Thats the cheap way to do it.

I was just wondering if a 2.5 or 3 inch was recommended. and frankly had no clue what the bennefits of an x or h pipe was. Im still clueless on the 2.5 or 3. No one really said. I know im runnign true duals id like to know whats best with a True dual.

As for Upgrading the motor that comes In a year and a half. Hopefully with a swap.

Re: Not sure where to go.

I your doing true duals 2.5 exhaust is all you need and you better look into the smallest muffler possible.
