Re: white smoke from exaust?

white smoke usually means a blown head gasket.

Check your oil and water levels. As its running look at your overflow and see if it bubbling in there

Re: white smoke from exaust?

You sure its not just because the weather is just getting really cold outside?

Normally, alot of white smoke out the exhaust would mean somehow antifreeze is getting burned in the motor. This usually means a bad head gasket, or cracked head. That would be like worse case scenaro, though.

It could also be the new pipe burning in. New exhaust always stinks for a week or two, and sometimes emits a very slight puff of smoke. But anything you can notice could be serious.

I would try smelling the exhaust. If it smells kinda sweet / tangy, it is probably coolant. Coolant steam has a distinct smell, I used to drive a parts truck around with 2 cracked heads and I got to know that smell real well.

Re: white smoke from exaust?

alright guys thanks,so its ether pipes burning in,or posibly coolent

but it does smell sweet/tangy,i smells like the exaust isnt being burned thuroughly,i was thnking more along the lines of back presure change,no?,cause i know onsme cars if u changed that back presure then the engine needs a lil tuning, but i guess i'll try one thing at atime i guess i'll go with new pipe burning in first, and if it keeps up,i'll go with coolent, and if thats not it then i guess i'll be asking arun agine

Re: white smoke from exaust?

When I had my duals installed, the pipe had a "hot" smell for a few days, but no smoke. I have seen engines smoke white due to overly rich conditions. But that is more common on carburated engines, and usually comes after a hard acceleration then lifting off abruptly. Or between gears on a manual trans, either way same thing. I would just take it easy on the car for a few days an see what happens. Keep close watch on the temp. And watch to see if your coolant level drops any, and your oil will start to turn a milky brown color (sometimes has bubbles in it) if its getting water/coolant mixed in.

Good luck,
Max

Re: white smoke from exaust?

thanks max, yeah its carb'ed and yeah i did excelerate hard but that was just to see how it sounded at high RPMs and because the guy that did the exaust sayd it would give me a 25 horse gaine,so i was seeing if it was true, but yeah i think im just gunna try for 1 thing at a time useing the suggestions evryone has given me,and if it keeps up im just gunna take it to a machanic,i'v got a messed up gas gage as well so i'll have them take a look wile fixing the gauge

25HP from an exhaust with stock manifolds? Yea, I also heard adding a Flowmaster window sticker will give you an extra 5 HP. Give it a shot!!

Re: white smoke from exaust?

DUDE!!the flowmaster sticker worked!! ,but yeah the exaust did improve the throttle responce though, and it finaly stop smoking so much, now its just a little and you have to be really close to see it,but thats probubly because of new pipes,so im not gunna worrie about that anymore, but i need a new tranie mount, and my gas gauge is broken, but im getting thoes fixed soon
