Summit "Universal X pipe"
Has anyone installed this kit http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
on their thirdgen? I was considering running some long tubes into header extensions into this and then after the Xpipe running two bullet mufflers with turndowns at the end. Just wondering how clearance will come out and if it will fit with stock suspension.

That's made for 60's muscle cars with lots of underbody clearance. Our cars have very little. Any exhaust needs to be tucked up into the tranny tunnel and driveshaft tunnel.

Re: Summit "Universal X pipe"
got it on mine! love it!!!!!!!!! amazing, really changes the exaust. it has headman LTs, headman 3" header extensions, summit 3" xpipe, 3" force mufflers with turndowns and ive lowered the car with sportlines so the car is lowwwww!
i actually just got pulled over and he said my exhaust was too loud for NJ! there was a post recently prob within the last month about this xpipe. it really changes the exhaust tone and it lessens the decible noise. over my true dual setup with no xpipe and it was louder.
if u want to put that on. ur gona have to do some serious modifications to the undercarage to get it to make it fit. i had to knotch my stock subframes to work but i had installed thru floor subframes. the xpipe is good quality and it works well. the open area is larger than u think and the pics dont do it justice

Re: Summit "Universal X pipe"

See how it has to go under the tranny crossmember there? That's why you cant really use a universal kit. You have to tuck them up as close to that thing as you can to get any kind of ground clearance out of it. My ground clearance isnt bad for what it is, but what it is, is a 3 inch system! These are Moroso Spiralflow mufflers. Very loud, but they dont drone nearly as much as my old blowmaster 80 did!

Some quick revs.
That's a summit X-pipe by the way, very similar to the one above, just it's a 3 inch one instead of a 2.5 inch one.

Re: Summit "Universal X pipe"
If your going to go duals, the only way to get ground clearance is to get your exhaust together under the car and start finding ways to tuck it more and more. Remember, the trick is to go down the driveshaft tunnel.
If you are that concerned about clearance, then go for a single 3inch cat back all the way out. None of these X-Pipe kits are made for 3rd-gens, therefore clearance on ALL of them is going to be bad unless you mess with it yourself.

Re: Summit "Universal X pipe"
the only way to get more ground clearance is to custom make it yourself for your application. if u want an xpipe u can do it but if u want more clearance then u want to go wit a smaller pipe diameter. 2.5" etc.
i knotched my stock subframes so nothing sits lower than the deep pan on my trans, so i got more ground clearance then the pic above. most shops wont do it to our cars so ur prob gona have to do it yourself. if u dont want to mess with that then just get a aftermarket 3" mandrel bent system. just so u kno the 3"xpipe and true dual exhaust sounds nothing like a stock aftermarket setup. all depends on what u want and what your willing to do

Re: Summit "Universal X pipe"
I happen to have the 2.5 inch summit X-pipe kit on my car. Granted, it was massaged and bent somewhat to gain back some ground clearance. I have hooker comp shorties, the X-pipe, then a pair of Flomaster delta force single chamber mufflers. Sounds mean, way meaner than any single pipe I've heard.
Well, except for a FULL 4 INCH system that I heard once. It had a 12.5:1 BBC in it with about .700 lift.
