i need my exhaust 5DB quieter

exhaust help needed. i have a 350 TPI with 1-3/4" SLP headers, and a 3" hooker aerochamber catback. it fails Oregon DEQ noise check by about 5 DB. i need it quieter. what can i do as a temporary cheap fix? just something temporary i can yank off later.

Re: i need my exhaust 5DB queiter

they make perforated cone baffles that install in the tailpipe, jegs # 329-72-32520 70 bux though.

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...10002_59838_-1

could put it before the muffles, or around the cat i guess, whatever is easier

Re: i need my exhaust 5DB queiter

Make your own lol its easy cheap and fast, find a 3in empty soup can, drill about 6 3/8" holes in the bottom of it, put some steel leader wire on it (so you can pull it out) and put it in the exhaust pipe before the cat or somewhere that will hold it in place........ did that to a friends car and it worked real good, and was easy to install and remove.

Re: i need my exhaust 5DB queiter

Try cramming an old sponge up one of the tailpipes. Make sure you have a way to get it back out tho. If you use that to make all the air come out one side, it should at least be a little quieter.

Steel wool will come out with a good WOT burst

Be gentle on it until you leave the inspection station

I have no idea if it will work but make your air filter dirty, less air equals less noise

The only think I can think of that is, since he has a Aerochamber, each tip is like a y-pipe. That makes getting stuff in and out kinda a pain I bet.

Flowmaster tips would have been super easy!

Re: i need my exhaust 5DB queiter

a permanent solution would be a bullet muffler in the intermediate pipe, or cut the hooker tips off. they add just a touch of noise over a regular type tailpipe.
steel wool is going to be your best bet.

Well, dicks or not, if they are using a DB meter, they dont really have a choice. Unless they ghost it, but that is probably a punishable crime.

Re: i need my exhaust 5DB queiter

I dont really think they would sound all that different from any other 3" single tip. Only difference is the Y at the very end. Its not like there is 4 actual tips.

But yes, I think every tip will change the sound to a limited extent.

Also remember, sound decibles arent a linear scale. It is more like exponential. I think the rule of thumb is every 10 decibles, it is actually twice as loud. So 90db. is like twice as loud as 80db.
