Re: I GOT A TICKET FOR NO CAT I NEED SOME ADVICE. PLZ
What to do? FIX IT. Hi-Flow cats MIGHT cost you 2hp, at MOST, so why get rid of it?
Dunno about California, but here in Texas, you can get it fixed within a certain # of days, get an officer to sign off, saying it has been put on, and it is considered a Fix-It ticket. Much cheaper.
With any ticket considering emissions tampering, a note of the inspection station will be made, and they are put up for investigation. It very well could have been there when it was inspected & you took it off afterwards, so they can't do anything to the station.

No idea on a California ticket cost....
Go with a Magnaflow cat. Probably the highest flowing cat out there. No AIR tube doesn't exist anymore. My pulley & belt are gone. But my #s at testing time are almost ZERO. I mean SUPER CLEAN, yet the AIR system is just there for looks now!

Re: I GOT A TICKET FOR NO CAT I NEED SOME ADVICE. PLZ
Check your state laws for that. Have 2 local 3rd gens w/ LS1s. Only requirement is that it passes the cars emissions requirements. Some state don't allow it PERIOD, others require emissions testing according to the engine. 2002 LS1 in a 1983 Camaro? 2002 emissions requirements then,

Yes you can upgrade your engine to newer specs in CA. The DMV's website is http://www.dmv.ca.gov/ You will need to take it to the state smog referee (not just a local smog check station) and have them sign off on the swap.
No idea what the fine will be, but you can post over in the NorCal section and ask them.

Be careful, if they consider it tampering, it can be $1000.

Re: I GOT A TICKET FOR NO CAT I NEED SOME ADVICE. PLZ
I don't know anyone in CA that has simply removed their cat and drove on the street, let alone gotten caught. I'm guessing you are one of those guys that loves LOUD exhausts? Doing that with no cat is like lighting a house on fire and being surprised when the fire department puts it out.
YOU REMOVING the cat is the big problem. Don't even think about saying you took it off yourself, that is tampering, swear it was stolen or you bought the car that way. If they cannot prove that you took it off, put a cat on and get it signed off ASAP and you should skate with a fix-it ticket, which varies depending on where you got it, but is usually around $50 bucks.
The longer you wait, the more likely that it will become a big problem.

OMG you live in California, man anything to do with emissions or vented into the air is a HELL no there.
you ever notice like almost everything having to do with air is fine in other states but cause cancer in california lol
but i know here in NJ if a cop is a really hardass i mean king A-hole he can check but most cops i see can't tell the different between a v6 or v8 so yea that don't happen much around here but it's 5000 if not fixed in 90 days after the 3rd ticket. i have one cop ask if my car was a new model or did i build it lol now this was in 2009 lol

Re: I GOT A TICKET FOR NO CAT I NEED SOME ADVICE. PLZ
On my car Im running flowmaster 80series with No Cats, here they may give you a ticket for loud exhaust, but when I say loud Im talkin about a no cats and dual glass packs loud. What most of us do around here is punch the cat out and either get a size up and just slide it over the straigt pipe and weld the ends or just have a punched out cat. Its almost a guarentee that every truck down here is runnin straight pipe or no cats.
As for the OP, hey atleast you got the cop on his knees. LOL congrats

I'm sure they wouldn't be too happy with a Cowatalytic Converter strapped to their butts. Then there's the whole science thing saying CO2 numbers are still on the rise, CFC numbers have been falling since 2000 and we're cooling off o.O

While, we can all agree, removing a cat is a no no, CA is still insane.
You guys realize how much cheaper cars would be if they didn't have to meet these emissions guidelines?
Also wondering if the OP is doing time!

Catalytic conversters convert poisonous gasses into greenhouse gasses. Many of us run without cats and havent died yet so I will conclude the danger of non-catted cars to humans and animals is overstated. By corrolary, without cats, we would have less greenhouse gasses, and with less greenhouse gasses, there would be less global warming.

I love how state vehicles, trucks, buses, and so on have all this nasty black smoke pouring out, but is ok. And yet if our vehicles go 1 point over the limit we fail emissions. I can't breath when one of those are in front of me.

I love living in Tennessee... Here in Knoxville, there is no vehicle inspection and NO emissions testing. I refuse to live somewhere that controls what you drive and all that crap.
But in all honesty, just put a high flow on and be done. Its just an L03 for cryin' out loud.

Five7kid, very astute! Bullseye! Ever noticed that every thing fun HAS to be bad somehow. Emmisions are BS. Redistribution of wealth is real. I try my very best not to buy anything from Kali if possible. Isn't it funny that the state that set the car trends (Kali) has the most draconian laws now?

If the new clean air bill passes, there will be a major problem in our 3rd Gen's. The EGR sensor/switch is discontinued. This is a must for emissions. Imagine how much money all vendors would lose if the air restrictions stiffen up. I imagine around 90% of all cats are not within specs of CA law. Thats a lot of cats to throw away or open and strip the platinum because of a law that may pass.

What I think is completely ridiculous is that if a IROC has its original Cat, it will not need to meet the current air standards and a smog station. But If you buy an aftermartket cat for a CA address, it must meet standards in CA or it will not be sold to a CA address. In other words, if its original and still in the Camaro, your good. But if you need a new one, it must meet CA requirements.

I dont think it will go to every state, its just not economical. The federal govt is already broke. Most states are cash strapped.I live in probably the poorest state in the union.Even in the capitol city(aprox.200.000 people)there is hardly any public transportation and what they do have isnt very reliable. To get to work you have to have a car.A LOT of people can barely afford to keep there cars running much less afford to keep them emissions compliant.New car?yeah right!Whos going to pay for all these machines and testing stations.Taxpayers! When people cant work because they cant drive their illegal cars there will be less taxes and more govt assistance needed. If they attempt it they`re dumber than i think they are!
Even emission compliant cars pollute, and im sure cities and municipalities will not bother keeping all their stuff legal for cost reasons im sure.
Its like Al Gore flying around the world on one of the most polluting vehicles ever to tell people to pollute less.
