Known they've been junk for a long time. There was a thread on here not that long ago about switching to the Magnaflow muffler and getting some good gains.

I've looking to get a new muffler for my car and I was pretty much set on buying a flowmaster for it,but i guess I better do some more research on mufflers.

Re: Interesting Flowmaster Muffler Thread
it depends on which one you get tho. the multichambered ones dont flow well, but the single chambered race flow ones do ok. Lot louder tho than the other series

Not to mention a flowmaster 80 series for example is going to choke a 383 WAY MORE than a stock/bolt on 305/L98.

Re: Interesting Flowmaster Muffler Thread
exactly. hotter the motor the greater the exhaust flow demand
for mild setups, you dont need a whole lot of flow. I replaced my 80 series with a chambered tube powerstick that is suppose to flow something like 700 cfm, and i gained very little at the track if anything at all with my bolt on L98

Re: Interesting Flowmaster Muffler Thread
I just like flowmasters for their sound, and the look of those cool tips that come with the american thunder catback
Still, straight pipe is looking better and better. The more cars I hear straight pipe, the better I like it. Lets you hear the natural sound of the motor with all the little clicks and pops that give an exhaust tone its character.
I do still like the sound of the flowmaster 80 though...
