Good or bad exhaust setup

I'm still new to all this. So I will take the advice of thirdgen members over how cool a sales pitch may sound.

I found a guy who is selling a custom exhaust setup for all 82 - 92 Camaros. It's a dual exhaust setup that branches off into sidepipes. The mufflers are Magnaflow glasspacks with magnaflow powerflow cats. Not that this makes any performance difference but for looks they have flat stainless steel magnaflow tips. i don't know the diameter of the pipes or whether or not they are just painted, or are stainless/aluminized steel. But if the deal sounds good then I will inquire. He wants $200 for the set.

My car is an 85 Z28 with a 5.0 V8 TPI. Yay or nay?

Re: Good or bad exhaust setup

sounds pretty cheap. You should ask him if there are any clearance issues. That is a huge problem with our cars

Re: Good or bad exhaust setup

Does the drivers side have dents or scratches on the bottom side? Ground clearance is hard on the driver's side.

Not to mention, if yours is a street car, it's illegal. Even if you live in a non-emissions county, the cat is supposed to remain...AIR tubes remain....smog pump remain, etc.

I already have no smog pump (well, the pump is there but no pulley, & my AIR tubes are still on my manifolds (for visual passing), but the CAT has no tube.

Re: Good or bad exhaust setup

When I first read this I was gonna say NO, because of clearence issues, but after seeing the pic, it might be just fine???

As for your emissions, I dont have any here, but I did in Chicago and all they do is hook up a sniffer (or did) and that was it. Should pass ok.

Re: Good or bad exhaust setup

The only thing that concerns me is the sound. I know glasspacks are loud, but are we talking legal loud? Also I'm looking for more of a deep low tone growl kind of noise. I heard glasspacks have a fartcan noise to them...

Regardless of the sniffer #s, even they are absolute ZERO...No cats? He can fail you.

A buddy here has glasspack tube on his 91o and it sounds good. No fartcan noise.

Uhhh, no cats? Look closely at the picture. Theres a cat in each length of pipe. The glasspacks and the pipes are black. The silver things are the cats.

Maybe so....Still illegal. A cat must remain in the stock LOCATION. Even if it was a dual cat car originally, the laws are picky about moving the cats. Therefore, you can't run the driver's side to the outside.
