Pics of the Hooker 2210's on AFR L98 Angle plug heads

Clearance looks good so far. Just got my headers in from Jet-Hot. Hooker super competition 2210's. My heads are AFR 195cc eliminators with L98 angle plug.

For the most part, clearance looks great for the plugs and wires, however i dont have the old plugs to check for sure. I can say drivers side, #1 cylinder will be the closest to the header. Everything else looks good, including passenger side #8, even tho the pic looks alittle tight. When i get plugs i'll get better pics

passenger side

drivers side now

Howdy

Looking good. One thing that we have noticed with the AFR Eliminator heads is that the exhaust port is a wee bit wider than say the Trickflows and other heads.

So you want to make sure the headers are not covering up any part of the exhaust port. That also goes for the gasket. If necessary a little grinding won't hurt a thing. After all you have that 400rwhp mark ahead of you and you don't want to lose a single horsepower so that you can achieve your goal.

i'm not sure how much you can port on these things... they are a good .2 difference in width, and .2 taller than the head. they need to be rotated. I'll see if i can open them up alittle but it aint gonna be easy

but yes, i hope these put up some good numbers they aint equal length, ranging from roughly 18 to 28 inches of tube length.

According to Larry Meaux regarding the primary pipes, "the diameter is more important than the length". However that is quite a difference.

Regarding opening up the header port. One thought is you might be able to bevel the header port so that it acts like a funnel. You can also incoporate the gasket into the equation if need be in regards to the bevel. This is based on the fact that you cannot open it up enough through normal means.

Taller than the head is fine. Some say it helps with reversion. If you can help it you don't want a flat surface sticking into the exhaust flow. So do the best you can with it.

Re: Pics of the Hooker 2210's on AFR L98 Angle plug heads

The AFR ports are wider than the 2210 primary tubes. If you'll notice, the tubes are welded on the inside of the flange instead of the outside. In your particular case, because of the beautiful (I'm jealous cause it looks great) coating, I would just smooth out the welds almost down to the parent metal.
I run the 227's, so I opted to re-weld the primaries on the outside of the flange and port the flange itself for a perfect port match. Never port the exhaust port to the header. Always port a "too small" header flange to the exhaust port, because you don't want that sharp "ledge" sticking out into the flow path.
If you use the Fel-pro 1406, you'll have to do some delicate porting to that gasket as well, but they will seal up really nice...even with minimal material left to seal. They will seem too thin near the bolt holes, but will not leak as long as you leave .030-.040 all the way around the bolt area.

Those headers look great.

PS. Nice head gaskets!

Hope this helps

I was worried about getting too thin. there isnt much material there. I think i can widen it safely to 1.48 inches or so, but i may squeeze out 1.50. About as wide as the afr port

lol thanks for the comments, these headers are nice looking... and the head gaskets are felpro 1142 MLS gaskets
