Not if the headers you buy now are large enough to not choke a 5.7.

1 5/8 or 1 3/4 header size should work for a 305/350.

The block is the same so headers should be the same.

Headers don't bolt to the block.

i didnt think that needed to be pointed out on a car forum, so am i right to assume that the exhaust ports on all heads are identical in space between them, location etc? at least for a chevy small block

Yes, as long as you stay away from exotic things like raised ports.

If it's going to be street driven, long tubes aren't worth the extra trouble.

only true if u have a lowered car. if my car was goin to be lowered i would have not run duals.

with my duals, i have no problems with clearence.it depends on how they are tucked. x pipes will yeild less ground clearence than an H-pipe. also the S-bends will have to be turned inward towards eachother.

u are however limited to what kind of mufflers u run. a thin style muffler will be best as far as mufflers go. i have dynomax bullets. loud mouths and bullets will give the best ground clearence.

I agree with Aperion. You can't "buy" an exhaust system for long tube headers. Whatever you do will have to be fabricated, and since a typical aftermarket system designed for '86-'90 TPI single cat will handle a street 350 just fine, going through the fabrication hassle (and probably expense) of long tubes isn't worth it.

There are more hassles than just ground clearance. I have long tubes with dual exahust on my 84 because it's my track car. For anything else that was street driven I'd save a whole bunch of my time, aggravation and money, and just bolt up a good cat back with shortys.

Re: difference in 5.0 and 5.7 headers?

i think i might just buy some shorties, i seen a set from summit for $90 and then invest in a nice 3" catback or something but from what ive heard shorties are not that much better then stock manifolds and honestly i find that hard to believe

Re: difference in 5.0 and 5.7 headers?

You get what you pay for with headers, as with everything else. If the $90 ones you saw were Flowtechs (or Summit's own brand, which are made by Flowtech), you're better off spending a little more money on something else. Those ones only have 1 1/2" primaries and a poor Y pipe design, which is barely adequate for a 305, let alone a 350.

Re: difference in 5.0 and 5.7 headers?

Flowtech/Summit headers are the bottom end of the scale. They're better than manifolds, but not nearly as good as more expensive headers.

A popular choice is the Hooker 2055s. About $450 gets you the Y pipe as well (keep in mind many headers don't include the Y pipe when you're comparing the price), and they'll work with all the factory emissions equipment.
