Ok I have read the exhuast threads and have gotten some preatty good ideas from them. But now it comes down to just chosing which one I want to get and put on my car. I thought that for headers either Hooker or Edelbrock. Then theres the type Longtubes or shorties. On to the the setup, I have heard that Flowmasters are nice but not aggresive enough, and that Magnaflow dont really work on a TPI setup, Borla is too expensive, Edelbrock is also nice but not loud enough for me, the Hooker competition is probably the nicest for the price and sound wise, the Mufflex exhaust system takes it away, but it is a bit pricey for my liking though. There are some shops around me that can fab up any ideas I have so maybe thats my best beat. Which leaves me with this, should I just make a custom exhaust?

As you can it sound amazing. But the only down point is that there's only 2 inchs of clearence with his setup

Oh btw 1986 Trans Am 305 TPI(stock). Im looking for something thats going to be loud enought, and deep toned to be heard a 1/2 mile away(Thats bout from my house straight to the highway) Reason is because I always hear this car WOTin it and it just sounds amazing. Thats wat I want.

Please help me out with your opinions on what I should do. And extend on any information

My opinion is you should come up with a new definition of "amazing". Being heard from 1/2 mile away basically means you'll be a nuisance to the community.

Magnaflow doesn't work with TPI? You read that here?

your not gonna make that car that loud being bone stock. Once you build it up with cam/heads/compression it will be very loud but for now, i'd suggest a single 3inch catback with a gutted cat. Get shorty headers, i like hooker 2055's if you want emissions stuff or 2460's i think it is without

run a good y pipe. For a muffler copy what i and viperkilr did, run a chambered tube... a short one around 16-20 inch body length. Go thru Classic Chambered inc for their true 3inch powersticks.

It will give that car a nice tone and be loud when you stab the gas. I had that setup on my L98 and it was pretty aggressive and loud when you were on it

 

Chicago has emissions testing so you should get the Hooker 2055's. They come with a y-pipe. Magnaflow just came out with a good thirdgen cat-back exhaust, and you can get one of their high-flow cats, too.

Edelbrock headers are horrible in my opinion, and Flowmasters are obnoxiously loud and dont flow as well as they claim.

 

Chicago only has emmision tests for cars '96 and up, but my car has all the setup still on it so Id rather not mess with it.

The hooker system on my car is far from obnoxious, and thats with headers and a Off-road y-pipe.

 

What kind of system u have on it. Like part #s etc.

When u say far from obnoxius do you mean louder than that?

My opinion is loud and obnoxious is not "amazing".

Here's some valuable information: loud and obnoxious is annoying, irresponsible, and puts a black mark in the publics' eye on all the rest of us.

If you want to be juvenile, there isn't much I can do about it. But, I can at least respond when the invitation is offered.

Being a responsible car owner is much, much more important than being loud and obnoxious. You want loud? Go to the track. Then keep it at the track.

There are few things more pitiful than trying to look or sound like what you're not.

Back to the thread at hand.... When I had the GMMG put on, and we gave the exhaust a few revs afterwords, the manager of the shop poked his head out the door into the shop about 15 seconds later and said "you know you guys are rattling the windows in here?"

I didn't want something that souded like a tin can. I wanted deep like a Flowmaster, but without the annoying drone. And a bit more Ferrari sound at the higher end.

My exhaust is similar to viprklr's except that I have the chambered muffler instead of intermediate pipes. I also have single instead of dual. It is smoooooth sounding.

On the drive home, I couldn't believe how much deeper the exhaust was compared to the Flowmaster. I set off car alarms with it even though I have stock manifolds, stock Y, a 3" cat, and the single exhaust....I never did that when I had Flowmaster Amer. Thunder with no cat.

http://ls1sounds.com/GMMG/GMMG_before-after.mpeg (right click and save, it's a big download). This really shows how smooth the GMMG sounds at all RPM levels. I like that it doesn't cackle and pop when you let off the gas. It's more of a lion's growl.

Now if Borla is too expensive, than you won't want the GMMG. If loud and noisy is what you want, than a simple cut out will suffice. An electric cut out is handier. For loud on a low budget that still sounds good rather than annoying, I'd go for the Hooker catback. Either one of them will suffice.

I suppose it's possible. But the stainless steel aspect with the fancy tips makes for an expensive system anyways. Don't forget they give you a deal with shipping. Most other exhausts charge to send you their catback.

 

Come on now, i know there was a point in your life you wanted somthing loud and obnoxious not the norm. Take me for example i have been driving my camaro going on 2 months now with open hooker 2055s, and my lo3 loves it. Is it obnoxious? Yes. Am i Happy? Yes. Am i breaking the law? Yes very. Now im not saying everyone should be running around with loud obnoxious exhaust.

I personally like the Random Tech cat-back.Heard it on another board member here and had to have it.Gets your attention at idle and really loud at WOT.
