headers and y-pipe for a stock dual cat set-up????

My 89 formula 350 has the stock dual cat setup and I am trying to find headers and a y-pipe to install. I was looking on Summit and Jegs and all I could find was a package from Hedman with shorty headers and includes the y-pipe ... part #68491. They don't have a ceramic coated option, but Jet-Hot sells them sterling coated for about 530 bucks. Does anyone have any experience with this Hedman package?? I was really looking for long tube headers, but I just don't see an option with a y-pipe made to fit the dual cats. Anybody have any ideas??

Re: headers and y-pipe for a stock dual cat set-up????

Did you read my sticky post "What's the best headers? What's the best exhaust?" at the top of this board?

Long tube headers are made to go straight back into either dual exhaust pipes, or into collectors for open exhaust on a race car. It would be extremely difficult to have enough space to route a y-pipe from long tube headers over to where the dual cats are.

Because the dual-cat option was only made from 89-92 and it was pretty rare, many header companies have stopped offering y-pipes for dual cats. The headers are the same. Your best bet would be to search this board for "dyno don headers" and send him a PM and ask about his set. He's one of the few people left making headers for our cars.

Also, it might be hard to get ahold of dyno don because I wanted to get headers and y pipe from him and never got PM'd back. He might have personal things going on right now and isn't able to PM back. If you get ahold of him, let him know I don't want headers, I NEED them!

Sorry if I missed any PM's but I am out of stock on headers right now.

The tubes are being bent but are not ready yet.

He said this week, we'll see.
Sucks having to rely on someone else.

The coated parts from Hedman are 66491. For some reason Summit doesn't list them. The Jet Hot price looks better than the Jegs price. Make sure you're getting everything coated, not just the headers themselves.

No personal experience, but they seem to be one of the best off-the-shelf shorty choices out there.

No, sorry. I didn't read that one, just the sticky post with the option chart. I thought that one would have what I was looking for, but didn't see anything on dual-cats or the Hedman part number I was specifically asking about.

Thanks for the info on long-tube headers ... I guess shorty's are what I will be needing. I will probably go with the Hedman package. I have heard good things about the brand. I am a little disappointed that the collectors are only 2.5" ... I was thinking 3" would be better. The Flowmaster Force II cat-back kit (part #17150) that is made for my dual cats, I know has 3" piping. But maybe the 2.5" will help out my ground clearance.

Don't do 2.5" cat-back (haven't seen a dual-cat system with 2.5" pipe, personally). A single 3" fits up snug without hanging down to hit things.

2.5" collectors are fine.

I only make them for my headers, they don't fit anything else.
