are hedman 68460 full tube headers good. They seem to be the only full length headers i've seen for thirdgens.

 

hedman is a pretty famous brand id say, have you checked with summit racing or jegs

 

Hooker also makes a good set, with bigger tubes too (1-3/4"). They are a tighter fit though.

 

aren't those the $500 ones, the hedman ones are $150. I don't have much money to spend on these so i was thinking the hedmans or the hooker shortys. how far would the hedman headers stick down? would there be enough clearance for speed bumps and stuff?

 

If you dont have the money to buy the headers do you have the money to install them? Long tube headers are NOT a direct bolt in. They require a lot of trial and error to fit them in, plus you have to pay a muffler shop to build you a custom y-pipe to connect them to the rest of your exhaust.

If $150 is your budget then I suggest you keep saving until you have $1000. A good set of headers plus y-pipe plus installation will cost you about that much. Look into the Hooker 2055's. They are shorties that come with a good y-pipe and will be easier to connect to your existing exhaust. They're also smog-legal.

hey i have a 1989 camaro with a tbi 350 and i was told i cant put long tube headers on it but ive seen it done is there certain ones i would need because i have a set of new heddman long tubes that i would like to use.

some tips would be great.

 

i see that flowtech makes shorties and a y pipe each for $119, are these worth getting. I would install them myself to save money.

 

how would the flowtech be to install would i have to trim the ac and ps brackets? and I don't need air tubes cause i'm going to remove the restrictive cat.

 

The painted hedemans are $150, they don't stick far down at all and you should clear most anything.

You can use them they just don't have air tubes like your original exhaust manifolds. they bolt up no problem

 

Id save your money.

 

They will be easier then the long tubes but for the price and time your better off getting a set of long tubes in the first place. with the flowtecs they should bolt in no problem with out removing anything the only hard part is going to be getting the last few bolts on the passenger side towards the firewall the HAVC box gets in the way.... with the long tubes its a different story you are going to need to do a few mods to get them to fit right unless you don't mind dented primaries, and since you plan do the above you could just buy a x pipe kit and dump it... cheap and simple

Flowtechs are "cheap" headers. As in cheap quality.

I hope you're removing the restrictive stock cat and replacing it with an aftermarket "high-flow" cat such as from Magnaflow, Catco, or Random Technology. Otherwise you're just polluting the air.

 

Kevin, I did read the sticky post but didn't see anybody complaining about the Edelbrock TES headers other than you. You stated that they're the worst design in your opinion (or words to that effect). I'll respect that, but what is it about the headers? They're all a pretty tight fit, so that shouldn't be the reason, are they poor quality? what is it? The "Y" pipe? What is it about the "Y" pipe? Have you ever used a set? After reading about the Edelbrock TES headers I deceided that for the price they're the right header for me. They're the only ceramic coated headers that I found that had a "Y" pipe that fit directly to my 4-bolt cat. They were $489.00 shipped (3 day shipping) to my door, so price was a major factor. I hope I have good things to report back.

 

cats are overrated... I think I will put the hooker comp. shorties(2460) on if i put headers on, and make a true dual that dumps out behind the doors.

 

Edelbrock does support more configurations than anyone else, I'll give them that. But, that "Ti-Tech" isn't ceramic coating, either.

Cats aren't over-rated, but deleting them is.

 

These are the ones I purchased. They're advertised as ceramic coated.

 

We just installed a set of headman headers shortys on my 83 TA,
uses a flowmaster muffler that came in a kit. It was around $700.00,
but well worth it.

 

i have those edelbrock headers for a year so far, no complaints, I got them to bolt it up to my cat too

 

Okay, those aren't Ti-Tech.

Summit calls the Ti-Tech "Ti-Tech ceramic coated". Just wanted to make sure that old misinterpretation wasn't repeated.

 

I got these from Jegs. I ordered them online at 10:00 Wednsday night. They were sitting on my doorstep this morning (Friday) at 11:30 AM... I think the shipping was $12.00 They FedEx'ed them out that night. Incredible.

Was there a point where you thought they might not fit your cat?

 

I just finished pulling off the old exhaust manifolds...Took 4 hours to get it torn down and cleaned up. I only skipped one step and that was pulling apart the steering shaft. I just couldn't see an easy way to do it. But luckily I just wiggled the header past the shaft with a little muscle and they slipped past. Oh, and I also broke one spark plug. No biggie.

 

Remember if you have a manual tranny t-5 lol a lot of long tubes wont fit! Hooker 2210s are the ones i found but they are 500+ bucks and DONT come with anything else.
