Help On My Choice Please?

I have a 1989 Camaro RS and looking for a new exhaust.
It sounds like Flowmaster has what i need, the loud and aggressive sounding exhaust the series 80 i believe. But i heard negative comments on them as they would heat up and melt the paint of the side of the car and other problems.

I was wondering if anyone would help me on a decission of what i'm looking for.
I want loud and aggressive sounding exhaust. I need cat back and catalyic converter as well. Anyone price me on what i'm looking for?

regards,
Timinsk

Re: Help On My Choice Please?

Did you see my sticky at the top of this forum? "Whats the best exhaust? What are the best headers?"

Magnaflow sounds great in my opinion, is a much better design than Flowmaster, and you can buy their catalytic converters, too.

If you search youtube.com for "kevin91z28" videos you can hear my car, too.

Do they come in 3"? Are those just tips or are they extensions that connect to the exhaust? I just want single on each side. Also I heard something about "backpressure" when it comes to exhaust.. anything on that; that could help me decide as well?
Are Magnaflows reasonably priced?
Do you have any videos on what it sounds like when driving?

[bump]
Anyone to answer my question?

!!!EDIT!!!
Ignore what I just said; I did check on the website and I got this brought up:

Click On Part# For A Detailed Description.YearDescriptionPart #MSRP1989V8 5.0L
5 x 8 x 18in. Dual Outlet Muffler, 3in. System, Dual 3.5in. Polished Tips, DUAL REAR EXIT
16829$561.41 1989V8 5.7L
5 x 8 x 18in. Dual Outlet Muffler, 3in. System, Dual 3.5in. Polished Tips, DUAL REAR EXIT
16829$561.41

I don't have the 5.7L I have a 5.0 But does it really matter? I'm looking into longer down the road with a 350 or 383 or 454 from GM but just saying though is it worth just getting the "5.7" exhaust even though they have the same description?

Anyone else experience these products from Magnaflow? Are they safe? Sturdy? Loud & Aggresive sounding? Is it worth it? I just want to make sure before I waste my money!

Re: Help On My Choice Please?

Yes you can use the same exhaust for a 5.7L or a 5.0L, especially if you're considering upgrading later.

Magnaflow is a good company, they make good products and their mufflers sound great in my opinion.

Thanks that helps and how about the catalytic converter? I notice they have a 5.0 and 5.7; should i go with 5.7 or would it not work on my engine? Because i think im doing the catalytic converter first then later save up for the 5.7 exhaust..

1987-1990 TPI single cat exhaust was the same for 305 and 350. So, it's not a 305 vs. 350 thing, it's TPI vs. TBI.

Just get the 3" stuff.

Oh ok; but what i mean then is "would the cataylic converter be much of a difference? meaning is there a tbi or tpi cataylic converter?" Thats what I kind of meant to say. Thanks for correctng me. I just noticed the difference in the shift valve pipes.

http://www.car-sound.com/02product/d...irectfit=93456
vs
http://www.car-sound.com/02product/d...irectfit=93441

I notice magnaflow with their cataylic converters have a universal fit and a direct fit. I thought it might be easier and more efficent with a direct fit but i may be wrong. Theres a big difference in price though. I'm a little out of order when I look at their list of parts from the 5.0 and 5.7, i know the E is for my car because thats the tbi i believe. I'm just curious on what I should get for that. I alittle more help please? I'm sorry for extending this i just dont want to really screw up to badly..

Re: Help On My Choice Please?

Direct-fit has the flanges on it that would bolt to your stock exhaust.

Get the universal fit and have your local muffler shop weld it in. Since you're changing from the smaller 2 1/4" cat to the larger 3" cat, you cant use the direct-fit.

Part number 94019.

Thanks! Thats going to save me a couple dollars.

!!!EDIT!!!

I noticed in the sound clip they provided they state "dual catalytic". Is that better or make it sound more aggressive?

Probably not. The welding is going to cost you more than the difference in cost between the cats.

If you're getting everything from the cat and on back, if you get direct-fit TPI pieces, the only modification will be from the y-pipe outlet to the cat inlet.

What would you recommend? I havea tbi by the way. Which would be cheaper and better?

If you get a cat-back, it can be bolted on - no welding required.

Give them the cat-back and cat (some shops won't install customer-provided cats, so be aware of that), they can cut out the old stuff, bolt in the new stuff and adapt your y-pipe to the cat inlet, for less than having them fabricate a bunch of stuff.

If they won't install a cat you bring into them, they'll probably charge double for the cat itself - so, you'll have to have them price that out to determine if universal or direct-fit is a better deal.

I have been assuming you'd be using your stock y-pipe.

No, what I'm talking about doesn't come with a y-pipe. Some headers do. But, I was under the impression you were looking for loud more than anything else (the opposite of what I would be looking for, but to each his own).

Would it best to look for new headers as well? To give more tone or aggressive sounding to add? and i think it would help with performance slightly? When i was a kid all i heard those muscle cars were just the loud sound from a mile away and it just made a tingle go up my spine and big smile, i think its great. but like you said "but to each his own." so what do you think?

ok once youtube works ill try; i see snow in a picture, is that it?
Also i heard problems from their cat backs from flowmaster that it heats up really highly and it gets at your paint and much more under the body than others do.. thats why i was scared at first to purchase

!!!EDIT!!!

Normally its just the whole comment: "one question" but its more like 2..

1. Could I borrow your rims and tires?
2. Would I need a body brace for my car to not fall apart from that? lol

Re: Help On My Choice Please?

i like the headman 2055 with a borla exhaust. but borla is expensive so you have to crawl over the net to get a good price. they can be gotten for about 400.00 but you have to really look.
you can adjust the noise level anytime you want.
