I need a less expensive idea...

I cant afford to go with DD or hooker headers since I think my dad might get them for me for x-mas but I need to go cheaper. I dont need emission testing and Im gutting my cat too. Im only looking into putting a est of 300hp in the next 1-2 years. What are the best headers for around $300-$350?

i have those, they take some work to get in, you DONT have to lift the motor or anything crazy, just trim the a-arm and maybe a small dent in one primary to clear the driver side kmember. you have to have a custom y pipe made though, my exhaust shop built me a nice one for 150, it is crushbent, BUT it works just fine for my motor

HP/$, you aren't going to do better than Hooker 2055HKR. No welding required.

Or Dyno Don.

You try to cheap out up front, you're going to spend more or get less in the end. There's just no getting around it.

i also use the hedman lt's. they worked great on my 358" smallblock with about 450hp. mine fit great..the only issue is the collector exit area makes ypipe and xpipe fabricating a chore. just my $.02

You'd be surprised how much of a difference crush-bent vs mandrel-bent makes, even on a <300 HP engine. Especially up at the y-pipe where the exhaust is still hot.

If i was you i would spend the extra money and get the 2055s, i dont feel like cutting and welding my a-arms or k-member,

You could try those stainless steel headers that guy on ebay sells, lots of fitment issues i bet though. My .02$

There's no such thing as cheap, and good. You get what you pay for. You'll need to save some more money and get the good headers.

Re: I need a less expensive idea...

i have hedman elite shorties and they sound great, my only issue is the y pipe is giving me a hassle to install. The headers are thermal coated and use a ball and socket flange. i think that there in your price range but i dont know to many people that are using these headers

People keep telling me to get Hooker 2055s but im not getting them and I know there people out there that dont agree with me but im sorry im not so lets cross that out. Hedmans I hear are also good but complain about how its hard to install y pipe and that and im not installing them so i really dont care if there hard or not im getting a huge discount and my friend likes the challenge. So 79frankenstein can you send me a link to your headers because I am thinking about buying them. Are they the biggest pipe you can get for a 350 though is my question.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: I need a less expensive idea...

does anyone know where i can get some afterparket ball and socket flanges so that i can prefab the cat hookup. i have the 2055's and want to get it ready for a 3" y pipe into a 3" cat. i dont want to be running the car all over LA to get it welded, so i want to ball and socket flange it, unless there is a better way. but i DONT WANT TO WELD A 3 HOLE FLANGE ON IT, the darn flange never fits right if you do it off the body. it either hits the heat shield or the lower flange rubs on the ground.
any ideas?

I got lucky with a pair of Edelbrocks fitting right but that is the exception not the rule. Everyone says the Hookers are the best for the money.

Yea I can tell but $450+ for headers and more for installation is not in the picture. I dont care how hard it is to put on because im not doing it

Ease of installation may not seem important if you aren't doing the work yourself, but the easier it is, the less it will cost to have them installed.

You might be able to find headers that are lower priced, but you won't find a better overall value than what we've been telling you.

Its not going to cost me anymore though. The installation is at a set price and promised not to go up on me at all.

That still doesn't mean the quality of the final product won't be affected. Get a cheap set of $149 headers that have to have the stock y-pipe modified to fit to them, do you really think he's going to make an all-new y-pipe with mandrel bends for $50? On the other hand, installing a set of 2055HKR with its great y-pipe would be less work for him, and you'd have a better system when it's done.

You can get less than you paid for, but it isn't reasonable to expect to get more by paying less.

Honestly he said he will since hes getting more work on my car and hes happy to do it and he wants to work on my car. So yea $50 will get me a y pipe also.
