Stock exhaust - muffler
Stock exhaust - muffler
I have a stock 92 305 and my muffler is rusty so i was thinking about taking it off for now (Im gonna get complete exhaust system later) What kind of noise would it make? Would it sound the same but louder or just bad?

idk...mine actually sounds good without a muffler...the 305 doesn't get that loud just at WOT it'll be the loudest. Idle seriously sounds the same.

hello, i got a 91 rs and a new cat back system but its stock. i cut the stock down tip and put 3in tips on( i dont like the down tips it look weird) but when i took a step back, i noticed that they are crooked. the right one is at the parking light( orange) and the left one is way to the left.
i got a picture of it. its off of my facebook. im going to see if it works, not very clear. could it be that the muffler isnt on correctly. i was not the person who put it on.

I cant view your pic at work, but more than likely the person that put the pipe exiting pipes on the muffler must have either bent it wrong or made it longer than other. Just take the one that is firther out, off the muffler, cut a decent amoung off of it and put it back in the muffler. Should take care if it, as ling as its not welded then take it to shop if so.

I say bad. I dont like them and im sure your neighbors wont either. You can get a cherry bomb muffler for 20 bucks at a parts store or meijers for some resason sells them .lol. I bought a brand new Flowmaster dual outlet muffler for 40 off craigslist. keep your eye on deals.
But if i was you i wouldnt.

Do you like the sound of a old dump truck? If so, you will like it with no muffler.

There isn't a whole lot of a difference with no muffler if the catalytic converter is still installed. Maybe marginally louder. My friend bought a '87 IROC and we didn't even noticed the muffler was gone until I looked under the car.
Exhaust systems are cheap so I wouldn't bother running it without a muffler. A Dynomax cat-back system is only around $180. Stock replacement is even less. Pretty easy to install yourself if you have a car jack and jack stands.
If you don't want to spend the money and the muffler has rust holes you can always band-aid it for a couple more years with a soup can, high-temp RTV, and some self drilling screws.
