I bought a few Walker Mega Clamps (listed by Summit as Dynomax brand) and I have a question for those of you that have used this type and brand of clamp.

Both 3" and 2.25" clamps I bought come with a length of caulk (dum-dum) attached to the clamp. What the heck is this for? Do I use the clamp with it or remove and pitch it?

I've contacted Walker, but I haven't heard back from them yet.

 

That is a bit of sealer that's to be placed where the two halves of the clamp come together. There's a small gap that remains once the clamp is installed and this seals the gap.
Don't forget to use the proper torque specs on the bolts. They take a fair amount of tightening (mine was 60 ft/lbs) to seal completely.

 

Thai's what I figured the stuff was for. Since this clamp is going to be installed at the converter, we'll see if this sealer will stand up to the heat.

i used those clamps on my last exhaust, all 3" and 1 2.5" one, i will never buy or use them again. They didnt hold the pipe tight enough, and after time with vibrations and heat cycles, they loosed their grip and my tail pipes would rotate, and my over axle pipe fell apart on me. I had to go around and shoot screws through them all to hold the pipes together.

 

I've used them. It's normally hit or miss. Sometimes ive had them seal and stay tight others no so well. Some have stripped out the bolt holes from tightening too much also. If it doesn't seal with these it needs a flanged joint or weld in my opinion.

 

So far I've had excellent results. I also like the ability to take the pipes apart without having to cut things up. I found the torque value was very important. I used a torque wrench and then redid them after the first few heat cycles like header bolts.

 

I wouldn't say mine had a 100% seal, but running a boosted motor making probably 850fwhp through one 3" pipe doesn't help. I made some tabs for the clamp bolts to grab onto to stop the connections blowing apart. All and all, I like them.

Yes. TIG welded stainless with modified header collectors. I've designed it so that I can drop it at the drag strip and add collector exenstions. No results yet with the exhaust removed because I keep breaking transmissions and differentials. I hope for better luck this season.

 

I had no luck with the Walkers or Dynomax when doing my exhaust. I tried these: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30733/10002/-1 and they worked great. Sealed the 1st time, and have been fine ever since.
