Loudest Catalytic Convertor
Well, I have FINALLY achieved my ideal exhaust sound (shorty headers, y-pipe, no cat, straight pipe, muffler delete, single exit, resonator tip) and I want to try and clean up the exhaust smell, after parking in the garage the exhaust smell sticks to my cloths, so I always smell like car, I like it, if it were up to me i'd leave it, but my wife doesn't appreciate it as much as I do....
Anyways, I am afraid that if I put a cat back on it'll change the sound too much and i won't be happy with it anymore, and cats arn't cheap enough to get a few and check each one out....
Is there any alternative to clean up the smell other than a cat? Or is there a cat out there that won't change the sound that much, such as a very high flow cat or spun cat or anything.
If not, what is the best flowing cat known to man.

One high flow cat is not going to make the exhaust louder than another. Compare a 20 year old stock cat to a high flow, and the high flow would be louder. I'd go with Catco or CarSound/Magnaflow.

Re: Loudest Catalytic Convertor
idk...i put a 3" single cat from a 89 L98 on my 85 trans am and it didnt really quiet it down. It mellowed the drown in my interior of my car at cruising speeds and at idle. Which is nice because cops gave me so much grief about my car. Now, at WOT the car wakes back up and sounds really good still

Also, I do not have any laws about emissions and the cops don't seem to mind loud exhaust.

I can't lose that raw powerful sound of startup and idle...

Re: Loudest Catalytic Convertor
just tell your wife "yep, i fixed it".
see if the placebo cat works first.
if not, "im going to have to go back to that muffler shop... something isnt right"
at first, i was like, theres something wrong with his speedo, lol.
you got some power bud

I think she's too smart to fall for the placebo effect,
Something wrong with the speedo? Whatcha mean?
"Some" power lol, not too much, better than the old 305 tho.
New question, would placing the cat where the muffler usually goes make it louder? Or do you have to place it close to where the headers are to make the catalyst work right?

in the middle when you get to the dashboard shot.
your speedo goes in line with your tach.
at first i didnt realize you were doing a burn out.
i thought you were just revving the engine and the speedo was f-ed up

Enjoy and tell your wife she smells like your car when you do it, she'll think of it as mean then you take her outside and the garage smells like cherries...YAY, sexy time!
P.S. Search around for Scented Gas Additive, there is root beer, cherries, pineapple....all kinds. Change it up every tank.

Re: Loudest Catalytic Convertor
The cat has to be hot to do its job. It has to be as close to the exhaust manifolds (or headers) as possible. The stock location under the passenger floorboard is just fine.

Re: Loudest Catalytic Convertor
i love your video. dumb question, but usualy i can tell a v8 from a v6 just from single or dual tips. is this a v6? if it is then it sounds like evil has entered your motor, and exhaust.

Re: Loudest Catalytic Convertor
heh, thanks, it's a v8 (357 TPI mild cam, worked heads) had to go with single out to achieve the sound I wanted.
