Ok I need to quiet this thing down

After numerous neighbor complaints and headaches after a 20 min drive I have come to the realization that I need to quiet this car down. I am running a twin turbo setup and I have dual 2.5" downpipes. The down pipes go into some Moroso spiral flows. The mufflers are positioned right under the seats, due to ground clearence issues. Right off the mufflers I have some turn downs. So they exit in the center of the car just behind the drivers seat. I think the turn downs are what is making it so loud. I have noticed when the car is on jacks or a lift it is quite a bit quieter. The only problem is I really don't have room to run rear exiting pipes. I have sumped the gas tank and I have fuel lines and pumps in the way now. Would it be worth it to move the turndowns back to the rear axle? I am open for any ideas.

if you move them back, it will be a little quieter for you, but no tthe neighbors. You need better mufflers of some kind

By having the exhaust end under the car, you will get that annoying resonance sound at highway speeds and be smelling fumes when stopped with the windows down. Can you merge the 2 downpipes together into a y-pipe and run a 3" or 3.5" cat back using the stock routing? That way you can have a muffler at the rear. I used 2 straight-thru Magnaflow mufflers (one under the passenger seat and one at the rear) for my single turbo and it is whisper quiet.

I think I am going to try and add some more pipe tonight and see where I get. I would like to move the mufflers under the center of the car and add a little more piping afterwards.
Unfortunately the stock routing is pretty much blocked now by a monster fuel pump and lines. I think I am pretty much stuck with it exiting under the car, but maybe if I get it routed back further it might help my cause.

Well using some extra pipe I had lying around I am able to add about 32" of pipe after the muffler. This puts the dump right at the pinion yoke instead of dumping at the rear of the transmission. I am going to try to aim the dumps outward as much as possible. Hopefully this will help out. If nothing else make it a little quieter on the inside of the car.

Well the longer exhaust did help out with the interior noise, but as for the neighbors...screw'em. It really isn't that much quieter on the outside of the car, but I really don't care as long as it is tolerable inside driving it.

If you're not lowered I'd replace the Morosos with Flowmaster's Hushpower series. pop over to www.summitracing.com and search HSH-12518400.

sorry to change the subject of your exhaust, but i have a question. with that 355 and twin turbos, what does that car run in the quarter mile? your car should be eaten stangs and some vettes for lunch! i would love to have your set up!
keep that thing loud, and tell your neighbors to kiss my butt. lol

Re: Ok I need to quiet this thing down

Well wouldn't it figure, the cops visit my house today telling me that my neighbors have called complaining. The funny thing is I only backed the car out of the garage and left at 11:30am mind you!!! I got back home at 2:00pm and a cop showed up 45 minutes later to tell me about the complaint. I hate this f***ing town. Never move to Parma OH! If they want to be a thorn in my side I hope they realize that I am going to be one in theirs. LOL!!!

Re: Ok I need to quiet this thing down

I had a friend that used to live in a suburban neighborhood and he had numerous complaints about the sound of his z28 being too loud. He went out and bought a decibel meter and researched the town's decibel limit on exhaust. He found out that even though the car was pretty loud, it was still within the city ordinance's decibel limit. He told the neighbors this info and said if they didn't like it they could go buy their own decibel meter and find out for themselves. After that, he never had a problem with them.

If you find out it really is too loud, I'd suggest a good flowing muffler and an electric cutout. The last thing I'd want is cops sniffing around the car wondering why my car was so loud.

Re: Ok I need to quiet this thing down

put a pair of dynomax turbo mufflers under the car. You can't get much quieter and still have a decent flowing muffler.

Re: Ok I need to quiet this thing down

It just sucks having busy bodies with nothing better to do, and they are targeting me. I haven't had any complaints from the neighbors on the other side of my house so I feel I am just being targeted by the old fuddy dutty's that think they own the block.

I like the meter idea and if I can find one resonably priced I will do that. I will get back at them. The old saying what goes around comes around is going to have a whole new meaning to them.

Re: Ok I need to quiet this thing down

Wow, come to western Ky, when i get a new mod I get texts from people that A-want me to smoke their house out in my diesel B- show their kids what a burnout is in the Camaro C- take their daughters out (they think i have money because I blow it all on my vehicles I guess)

get electric cutouts and really screw with them

when i was living at my x's i got a lot of complaints for leaving my truck idling in the parking lot (but a turbo is considered a muffler in this state HAHAHAHA) but they got over it when i broke out the hey it's a diesel if i shut it off it may not start back line, whatever.
