Re: emission removal

it will make your car in violation of federal law, which is a felony and subject you to federal prison, a fine of up to $10,000.00 and loss of your car.
but go ahead if you must.

Re: emission removal

Things are different where I live, we don't have emissions testing here, and I highly doubt I'm the only one who has ever removed these from my vehicle. But if Federal Agents show up in my driveway to evaluate my car I'll let you know. It was just a question and if you don't have anything helpful to share then please don't reply to my e-mails

lol

no, if you remove that stuff you wont loose or gain any performance... the only "advantages" is some weight reduction, louder sounding car (no cat), cleaner engine bay, and less parts to wear and break on you... I got rid of all my stuff aswell since we have no emissions testing. Cops here have better things to worry about than looking under cars... My underhood looks a whole lot cleaner.

Re: emission removal

state emission laws dont overrule federal regulations.
want to advice about smog equipment - the computers are designed to take lots of things into consideration when making changes to your running.
get a good hi-flow 3 inch interal diameter cat - magnaflow makes a good one.
the cat will not hurt your performance on the road - and may actually save your lungs just a little.
and there is a difference between not getting caught and not violating the law.
one nasty word to a cop and you fail the attitude test and all he has to do is look and see a federal violation - no cat - oups and you are in the stink.

Re: emission removal

OK THE LAW HAS BEEN STATED.

ALH442, If you remove the pump you will need a pump delete pulley, or you can just get a shorter belt. When you remove the valve thing take off your manifold tubes aswell as the pipe going down to the cat. Then you can stick what you want in place of the cat. I would suggest getting your PROM tuned to remove the smog stuff so the SES light doesn't come on. Any other questions just PM me so we don't anger the smog police.

Re: emission removal

I've never had SES light come on without the smog stuff. I think the only smog related device connected to the ecm is the egr. Thats with my 305 TPI. When I get into prom tunning I'll probably remove that. YES its violating the law and so is speeding.

Re: emission removal

I say give yourself room to work. For the fun factor I had a 3" cutout put in before my cat in the y pipe.

Re: emission removal

When I removed all the smog pump/A.I.R./egr/cat from my 92 305 it was more of a "this doesn't need to be here" kind of thing. I got a stage II chip from brian over at TBICHIPS.com and she was good to go.

I am also a super minimalist however. I removed the AC/heat/vats/radio/etc/etc. Kept the power steering tho lol

Re: emission removal

tony i know i am living in the danger zone but-

ALH442- I am not running my smog, my cat is hollow, and I have no check engine light. I also know my computer is funcitonal, because of all the other accurate codes it throws my way.

Tip- Of you remove the egr make sure you dont just disconnect and plug it but get a block off plate. This will help combat vaccuum leaks.

If you wanna go really cheap you can take it off, have the pot cut off with a band saw and weld up the holes. Unless you live in a cold area I usually either buy an intake that doesn't have the exhaust crossover passage or make some sheet metal block off plates and put them over the port on the heads.
