It depneds on you local laws and such. Just cause its a classic dosent mean you can remove emissions as I think your implying.

Antique registered vehicles are limited as to how many miles they can be driven, when they can be driven (not back & forth to work), etc.

Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
I have no smog pump. Mu cat doesn't even have an AIR tube on it.
The AIR tube on my manifolds, are all hooked up to the diverter box under the hood. It all LOOKS stock, but the diverter box hose just runs to the back of thengine, then disappears & is hooked to nothing.
Visually? I should fail, but I don't. They don't look that closely.

Yeah. A GOOD cat, not just a cheapo stock replacement, will do wonders.

As was mentioned, every state is different. In PA for example, classic is 15 years, antique is 25 years. As long as its registered as either a classic or antique you don't have to pass any kind of emissions inspection but you are limited to 5k/year and no more than 2 days/week. As though they could tell how many days/week you drive it

You're lucky. I tried that the first year I got my Camaro inspected as the pipe was missing when I got the car and he nailed me for it. Luckily he was able to fab something up for me from pipe he had laying around. Charged me all of $20 to fix it.

Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
If the car is quiet enough, the inspector shouldn't care about no muffler. On my 92, I ran with nu muffler, just the cat, for years. Where the pipe turns to enter the muffler, I cut it right there & ran pipe straight back, existing under the bumper on the passenger side.
You can just make it out, just to the right of the right stripe.

Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
i got an 84 z and i got my antique plates last week. the car is no where near stock. 4 inch cowl hood, dropped a rebuilt 350 in, headers, full custom exhaust(with no cats or any smog equipment), aftermarket head unit and speakers, 2 12" subs, deleted a/c, deleted cruise, shaved antenna, and a bunch more i cant even think about right now. I got accepted for my antique plates with all of that. all the guy said was " if the cops ask, the stock hood was there when i seen it"

Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
Where I live 1975-1995 get the exhaust tested. 1996-current just plug into the ODBII connector & has your car tattle on you. I failed once because my Check Engine bulb was bad.
If I lived 5 miles south I wouldn't have to test anything.

And how do you get "accepted" for antique plates ? Last I knew for vintage and antique plates all you do is change insurance options and get vintage plates.

Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
Inspections for me are just a visual no matter the year thankfully. Like you however, I live right near the border to where there wouldn't even be a visual inspection for emissions. However, I am less than a 1/4 mile away from the line. I'm so close that everyone assumes until they look at the registration card.

Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
well not really accepted but around here the car has to be inspected and passed by the local car club in order to get your plates. just basically so you dont get classic plates on a drag car or kit car etc.
Re: is my 84 CLaaic now?
In MS, walk in with the title, or appropriate paperwork showing ownership, and 25 years old + a day and you're good to go with an antique tag. Done it several times, and never a question, a visual, nothing. They just sit there with a hand out waiting for the check. All they're looking for is the date of mfg.
