Flowmaster Dual exhaust

hi i have a 87 IROCZ and i would like to get a dual exhaust. i found a dual exhaust kit by Flowmaster on www.horsepowerfreaks.com and i was wondering if i would be able to put it in my car. i also dont know how much ground clearance i would get bc it has a H-pipe. can i put an H-pipe on a 3rd gen? and also my friend said that i can take the cat off of my car when it is 21 years old, and its 22 years old. thanks for the help.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

The link is to the main page not to the exhasut you want. To my knowledge no one makes a true dual exhaust for our cars. You can fab one but ground clearance is usally an issue. And no matter how old you car is your not suppose to take your cats off the car. Some people do it and get away with it, like myself but your not suppose to do it. In NY its anything 25 model years and older is emissions exempt.

You still have to fab all those pcs up. Its not a direct fit.

Looks good, just dosnt say if its for long tube headers or the stock shortys. Also make sure what size cat you have before buying the exhaust.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

yea, i think i have 3'' flanged cat, in the reviews somebody purchased the exhaust system that had a 88 camaro. i wish i was able to get a hold of him so i could ask him some questions. u think i would have to purchase another cat then, like i said before my friend said that i can take it off after 21 years and i would have to get a safety inspection

You need 2 cats and your friend is wrong. Its 25 model years in New York and then the car is emissions exempt. But that still dosent mean you can run without emissions. You better know someone that can give you a stick before you start taking emissions stuff off.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

I would double check what exactly you're interested in. On HPF's website it says that it uses the stock style 80 series crossflow muffler. That is NOT what is pictured.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

He means stock as in one pipe in two tail pipes out. Only one muffler is used on stock camaros and trans ams.I dont know what pic he is looking at but the mufflers at the top of that website are not 80 series mufflers.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

I took a 2nd look at the website and bdltke is right. The flowmaster sytem they are offering is the same as everyone elses system. Its just a stock replacement and isnt a true dual.

To expand on that....

After the 25yr mark (23 here in TX), it only means you are exempt FROM THE TESTING. Not that you are allowed to remove the emissions parts. The tests are only a state requirement. That the stuff be on the car, is Federal. They still have to be there, you simply are not tested, as to how effective they are.

Dynomax makes a 50-state legal dual exhaust system, but requires that the car have the original dual cat system, to actually be legal. Not saying it is a good system (2.5" & crimp bends, not mandrel bends), ,but it does exist. Look on the Summit site for it.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

if your looking for true duals the best way is the way that I'm going to run mine get the oval exhaust pipe they make a H pipe that goes from round to oval then get two pieces about 3' long for each side and the adapters to go back to round pipe then go up over the axle like the dual cat cars do and goes into two mufflers and two 3" tail pipes. Look on ebay they have a dual cat back system. You could hook back onto them just to come up over rear and out the back. It may take a small amount of fabricating but you can make a true dual exhaust 3rd gen Camaro with out too many hassles. I would only suggest going through all that work if you have a motor that needs to breathe. If you motor isn't putting out over 450 hp just get high flow cat and good hi flow cat back system with 3" in and 3" out they have them on ebay too.

Re: Flowmaster Dual exhaust

I love the sound of flowmasters exhaust and I just purchased the flowmasters 80 series exhaust that's three inch tubing and 3 inch dual tip stainless steel (polished) tips. I can't wait to get it put on. How much you think a shop would chafes me to weld it all up? Anyone have a guess.
