uhh why dont you call a parts store and ASK them or do you want us to do that for ya to? quit bein lazy. ask them how much sticks of exhaust cost or call and exhaust shop and ask them how much it will cost to run new exhaust. unless you can do it yourself. which is ALWAYS cheaper.

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

no we just expect you to do a little work yourself. i cant give you a quote on how much its going to cost. everyplace is different. and it depends on what size ehaust you want, how you plan to route it etc. its not just a simple answer. yeah places are closed but i know for a fact that theyre open tomorrow. if you dont have much money then dont try fixing your car. if you dont plan on spending a lot of money then your in the wrong hobby. exhaust shops may charge you 100 - 300 bucks. depending on who you know and how much they charge. when i was 17 i put an exhaust under my car myself. didnt know anything bout it, but i learned as i went and i saved a crap load of money.

well i dont wanna have to change out my whole exhuast right now i only have like 100 bucks to spend and thats including the muffler so i think im screwed. if i went a bigger size wouldnt i need a diffrent cat and a diffrent muffler? if i just went stock size would i be spending still hudrends of dollars for piping or is it like 40dollars. well see i just started out with replacing a muffler i didnt know i would need all new pipes. what tools does it all require to bend the pipes. how many hours am i looking at of doing work of taking off what i need to and installing it and getting help from a pro that knows lots about camaros. i would like to stay under 130bucks total for everything but exeptions are ok if its not to much more

Just save up your money buddy... You're 13 years old, its not like you need this car on the road tomorrow... Save up your cash so you can get exactly what you want done professionally... You can get a decent flowmaster exhaust put on at midas for like $300... And no you won't need a bigger cat to run bigger piping; its true high flow cats flow better but all they really do on a street application is make your car louder... Be patient and do all your projects the right way, you got plenty of time...

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

well see i just need to know right now if i can just install the muffler and what i do about the stuck piping. i need the muffler because mine went out and i cant let the car sit much longer and the car is to loud ( annoying loud like a fart can civic NO 1 likes fart cans ) to be driven around the block i just need to know how to remove the pipes without sawing them off. i would rather just install the muffler by myself and for cheap. but if i HAVE to get new pipes then i'll do that but i rather not.

and when i do get a completly new exhuast what do you all have to remove to install 1 of there systems? i much rather install it myself and feel like i did something and safe money and i just like working on her.

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

Whow tough crowd. Now worries little buddy. I know how hard it can be to stretch out a pay check.

Since you are strapped for cash I would recommend a basic hack saw. Your arm will be pretty tired afterward but you can save the $40-50 from the saw for your project.

You should be able to buy the necessary pipe for less than $20 and you will probably have another $20 into the welds. But you will have to do some leg work to find an affordable muffler shop.

As far as the muffler, it all depends what you want. I am guessing you mainly want something that sounds good. Hop on Youtube and look up cars that have the engine and exhaust you are interested in.

I just had my exhaust put on this summer. I got a new Y-pipe (for my header install), used my stock over the axle pipe, a dual exit Goerlich Xlerator muffler, some used turn downs and some nice chrome 3" truck tips for like $400 total and the y-pipe was about $150 of that.

Also, never be afraid to buy used. Check out craigslist or the for sale sections of this site for some lightly used exhaust components.

Good luck!

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

hey I looked up the mid pipe from my car witch is a 84 might be different than yours it was 35 bucks from autozone they also have the tail pipes too if they are rusted too bad .Autozone , pepboys and I'm sure other part stores have online parts catalogs that can be very helpful , it can be hard to get a straight answer on here sometimes . Good luck with your ride you got lots of time to get everything right .

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

Why use a sawzall etc when he can just use autozones rent-a-tool and rent a tailpipe cutter for pretty much free? It will cut just about any sized exhaust in about 5 minutes

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

Your 13....You've got 3 years (or more) to get it fixed. You can't drive it (much less just "around the block") anyways, so why hurry?

Don't waste your $ on temporary fixes, that you'll just end up replacing. Do it once & do it right. Spend $100 right & that iis $100 less that you can spend later, when you redo it later, with better pipes & such.

For example.......$239 + shipping, you can get a 95% bolt-on (just tweak the hangers a bit), all new exhaust, from the back of the catalytic converter to the rear. TSP Rumbler

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

Only way to get 'em off is to cut 'em, or, heat them with a torch, getting them glowing a nice pretty red, and have your helper twist and pull.

Another possibility would be to cut the flange on the muffler (the part that sticks out about three inches, that the intermediate pipe plugs into) and peel it away from the I-pipe. Trouble is, you are going to have to do that for the tail-pipe(s?) as well.

Just out of idle curiosity... whats the big rush? Its not like you can actually drive the car? Or, is someone else driving it in the meantime?

OK.....

If you have to cut them off....Make your cut on the MUFFLER side of the joint, then make cuts through just the muffler piece inside the pipes & peel the pieces out that way.

Or just go get some 90 degree bends & make new tail pipes, off your new muffler.

Wait a minute.....

You want to swap out exhaust stuiff yourself, but your going to take the car to shop, to get the OIL CHANGED???

Oil changes are oright behind putting air in the tires & putting in gas, that is how easy oil changes are! They are so simple, I will not buy my daughter her own car, until she can change her own oil! Whether or not she chooses to pay somebody or not during her life, is her choice. But she WILL know how to do it herself.

Truly entertaining how a "13 yr. old" w/ 200 plus posts can
play you guys along.
For every reasonable answer, he has a yada-yada reply.
(Not to mention total absence of punctuation capitalization.)

I think its time to call the penalty.

no no that sounded wrong ok reason why i sad that is because then i'll be sure everything is lubed and im not sure what all needs to. im actually going do it myself because i though of it and i'll just have my camaro pro come over and have him see if everything is correctly lubed.

Re: how do i remove rusted pipes!

I've done the sawzall the muffler and then slit the part that covers the intermediate pipe to peal back whats overlapping. But i've also twisted it until it was loose to twist, and then hammered the crap out of the muffler to get it off. That was the fun way to do it. I learned that one in a junk yard when i needed an untermediate pipe and all i had was a sledge hammer. Got a piece of metal wiring, tied it around the intermediate pipe, tied the other end to an axle stud, and twisted the muffler down and hammered away. 15 minutes later it gave up for me.

And i don't know where you guys are shopping, and obviously i look in all the wrong places, but last i looked, an intermediate pipe for my v8 was $110-125.

Edit: Nvm, i must have been thinking of when i was looking for a y-pipe. Yea it's like $40 for the intermediate pipe, but the more you play with the exhaust, u'll keep looking for things to break (bolts to cat, ect), so if you can just seperate the muffler and replace that if the intermediate pipe is still solid i'd say go that route.

Why? There is full grown men on forums who are dumber then a brick in some cases. This is a place to learn about these cars. I don't think he's asking anything completely out of line at all. This is the perfect place for him to ask questions and build a knowledge base for these cars.

BTW you don't need a new intermediate pipe if your muffler is rusted on. Take a hand grinder or saw and cut cross ways were the muffler slips onto the intermediate pipe. Then stick a large screw driver into the cut part and hammer it in. Work it and it will bend or rip off leaving your intermediate pipe untouched your factory muffler inlet will be toast but who cares. It's not hard.
