Is this really a V-6 Muffler on my Z28?
Went to the muffler shop to get a quote. He said I have a V-6 muffler on my Z28. It sounds like performance exhaust to me. Hmmmm.
Can someone please solve my mystery

looks like a generic crossflow muffler to me... Not sure why he thinks it's specifically for a V6.

it is a v6 muffler, the v8 mufflers also have dual outlets but on opposite sides. still it looks pretty cool and you dont see many third gens with that type of muffler.
btw, hey Dave didn't know you were on here too :P

V6 mufflers had a tailpipe on each side, just like the V8's.
What counts is the inlet pipe size. Post a pic of that.

Looks like an aftermarket V8 system, although I couldn't tell you who made it.

Reading the some of the posts above, I can imagine that the oem dual tips are created with one muffler. Funds are low right now and I am thinking that finding a used OEM muffler with dual exhuast outlets might be the best bet.

Correct. Except for the '82-'83 Crossfire engines, all 3rd gen dual tailpipes came out of a single muffler.
Dual exhaust is difficult to route on our cars. Less than 2-1/2", you aren't any better off than you are with single 3" O.D., which is what most aftermarket cat backs are. Stock cat back was 2-7/8", so a well-built aftermarket 3" system would do just fine. And, they can usually be bolted up with standard hand tools if you have means of getting the car up in the air safely.
If you're willing to do the work (and I'm not particularly fond of exhaust work myself), you'd get a much better system for your $'s by buying and installing a good cat back yourself.

Could be. My factory '82 LG4 had an 80 series Flowmaster on it by the time I got it.

Re: Is this really a V-6 Muffler on my Z28?
From the looks of the inlet pic being slightly offset (instead of centered), it appears to be a generic cross flow mounted reverse of how it should be.
The inlet is put to the outlet and the same side out is the inlet/outlet.
Might be the SoCo talking though....
TBI and v6 (3.1.. not sure about 2.8) had the same wimpy cat-back (stock) exhaust.

Interesting enough, I seem to hang with the LT1's pretty good. Usually about a car length until about 110 and I start roping em back in. Maybe it's the G92 gearing and close ratio transmission. I have been wondering if there is some type of performance advantage in this exhaust. Am way off in saying that? I bet so.
Other than some super bad *** talking alarm that I removed from the car and the exhaust, it seems to be stock.
