stock 91-92 Z28 muffler centered?

I apologize in advance for my lack of certainty

I have noticed on other Z28's as well as my new/used 91 Z28
that the muffler is not perfectly centered on the automobile
it is probably not the original stock muffler
it is not centered -it is about four inches to the left if you are
standing behind the vehicle-towards the driver's side like they did not
put it completely on the exhaust pipe

I figure they just did a shotty job installing it and that it should be centered
I had a muffler installed on my RS and we centered it perfectly and
tucked it up real tight so you cant even see the tailpipes

question
were the stock mufflers centered when built at the factory?
and also
when I install my new cat-back system -will it be centered?

not a muffler guy

Re: stock 91-92 Z28 muffler centered?

still curious...why is the 91 Z28 muffler not centered?
I saw another Z and it is the same story
It seems to me there is enough room to slide it
further onto the exhaust pipe
Did the stock muffler come like that?
e.i. 4 inches to far to the driver side

As far as I know, yes. Since the tail pipes are symmetrical under the bumper, I don't see that placement is a problem. What's troubling you about it?

^^ my 84's muffler isnt centered either, but the tail pipes compensate for it and it looks symmetrical under the bumper.

I just think there is room enough to center the muffler as well as the
tailpipes so that it looks correct-being uncentered looks as if it is a mistake
my RS is centered

Re: stock 91-92 Z28 muffler centered?

Same here, 88 IROC-Z, not centered. It ahd a bone stock muffler with holes in it that I replaced with this one, it's in the exact same spot as befoer. The pass side rear pipe is longer from the muffler to the elbow than the other side
