Headers fitment issue

I purchased my second car recently, a 88 iroc. The previous year I spent my time building a small block 350 to put in it because the iroc had no motor or transmission with it. The motor is pretty typical, a new set oh heads larger cam and new intake/carb, all of which is from edelbrocks performer rpm series. The problem I am having is that any headers I have tried that were designed for that car are to big, they hit the steering shaft and the ac box. I considered taking an inch off and snugging them up to the block but that inturn creates an issue with spart plug clearance. I want to avoid manifolds as much as possible but I can't find a set of headers to fit. Any suggestions?

Re: Headers fitment issue

is the 350 a 3rd gen block? I actually don't know if there's a difference ...

are you sure these headers you're using are meant for camaro/firebird third gens and not for SBC... I am using the Edelbrock TES and don't have issues with the headers coming in contact with anything...

I'm not sure if there is a difference either. I got it from a local scrap yard and I believe it to be from a late 80's early 90's truck. Not sure though.

Re: Headers fitment issue

Summit lists them as "generation 1" so I would assume them to be similar if not the same. And it could also be that the edelbrock heads are wider due to a larger combustion chamber.

yes, the headers were ordered for an 88 iroc z camaro with a 350. I ordered the hedman shortys for it and even tried swapping over the flowtech headers off my 84 berlinetta and same problem. The next opion I was considering is the TES headers thinking that ededlbrocks own parts should match up. But I don't need the emmissions tubes on it for were I live. I feel theywould just stick out, but I'm willing to cap them off and deal with them if need be.

Ehh, I haven't owned the car long but there is a possibility that it could be that causing the problem. We had new brackets pit on the motor but the actual mount could be bad. If so that would fix it hitting the steering shaft...But only raise it into the ac more...

Re: Headers fitment issue

This is why you're not supposed to buy headers. Get feeters, like you're supposed to. Maybe even some kneecappers.
