long tubes vs. shorty's

could i make more power by going with long tubes, true duals, 3" pipes, with single chamber flow masters an dumping it a the rear end?

or would i make more power by going with 1'5/8 shorty headers after market Y pipe an a hooker cat back system 3" pipes?

Re: long tubes vs. shorty's

Honestly, you arent going to see alot of power diffence unless you have a high ouput engine. Lots of people dont understand this. Exhaust and intake upgrades arent a set hp gain, its a percentage and usually a small one at that. So if you have near stock, or even stock engine, you arent going to see much of a gain at all. Biggest gain you will see will be a high flow cat and less restrictions in the muffler. Maybe a magnaflow muffler.

And all the old guys will tell you that you NEED backpressure. Well this is how that works. You can get more performance out of a SMALLER (not small!) diameter exhaust pipes because it acts like a suction out of the end of the exhaust. The smaller diamater will help the overall flow and actually help pull. Or so Ive heard. Im no genius at exhaust and will not claim to be. Backpressure is just a myth. You really wont see a gain unless you have a high output engine as i said by going larger headers and ect.

And long tube headers vs. shorties. Mainly from what ive learned.. Long tubes better low end tourqe. Shorties are more for higher rpms.

Good day and good luck.
