Dual cats connection question (with pics)
I've dual cats on my '89 IROC, and am wondering what kind of connection in on the pipe? 3 bolt flange? Ball and socket? Doesn't look like either cause there's no plate to bolt anything to!? I'm looking for a cat back but I' not sure of the connection style. I'll try to take a pic tonight, but any help?

Come on, anyone?! Am I just that retarded, or is this some kind of different connection?

Thanks. So the connecting pipe butts its flange against the flair and the clamps holds them together?

So this is common I assume cause It's stock from what I can see? If I buy a cat-back (which I obviously need) will it just connect right up or will I have to do some welding/modifying to make it fit on the car? Sorry for being an exhaust noob.

Re: Dual cats connection question (with pics)
Yes it is stock. A direct fit cat back will attach with the V band clamp.
For exemple a flowmaster cat back for dual cat includes the Y that requires cutting the stock Y and welding the new one.
It depends on what cat back you use. If you type the part # in the TGO search function you may find some detailed feedback from those who have used that particular cat back.

Re: Dual cats connection question (with pics)
I'm finally getting around to doing this exhaust work, but another question has come up. I mic'd the pipe with the V-band connection and It's 2.75" yet I don't see any intermediate pipes that are that diameter let alone have the correct size V-band connection. So what gives? Is this the correct size pipe?

Re: Dual cats connection question (with pics)
That's actually not a bad system. My delima is that I already have a 2.5" cat back flowmaster system, I just need to connect it to this v-band flange. I know I could cut the flange off and weld it, but I'd like to just find a weldable flange so I can weld it to the existing flowmaster cat back I have.

Re: Dual cats connection question (with pics)
I had a similar issue on my 92 B4C with dual cats. I bought a replacement dual converter cat pipe from Catco and didn't want to cut it up. I ended up buying Flowmaster cat back 17151 for a single 3 inch converter and had it flared to match the single outlet of the dual cat system. I also used the clamp mentioned above to put it all together. If you already have the cat back for the dual converters which was 17150 in my case, you can use it as the only differences are the cat connection. Just mock up the exhaust and have the one pipe made to connect it together. Most of this is from memory but a mock up should help disspel any inconsistencies. The biggest issue I had was finding someone to flare 3inch pipe.
