Hedman header install help needed
I am installing a set of hedman headers and a Y pipe. The problem is, I can not fit the headers into the car. My stepdad said the engine must be pulled. Please tell me that isn't the facts of it because if so I'll just slap the manifolds back on it and say screw it for now.
Any help from people that have installed these before would be apreciated and the sooner the better because I'm in the middle of this right now and only have a helper until tomorrow night.

Jack the car up and get em in from underneath. you shouldnt have to pull the motor. Its rare you will be able to get them in from up top.

Re: Hedman header install help needed
i installed my hedman headers a few months ago . # 68478 headers , # 17478 Y pipe . drivers side from above , dis-connect steering shaft . pass. side from below , remove starter . removing all spark plugs helps/recommened . you will want a custom set of plug wires . don't forget O2 sensor . good luck .

Re: Hedman header install help needed
I have it figured out I think. I downloaded the directions from hedman and it says to insert them from the top. Unfortunately, I had the O2 bung welded into the wrong side of the header and it faces the engine crossmember and can not be used. I will get a plug for it and another O2 bung and have it welded in the right spot and we should be good to go from there on.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Hedman header install help needed
No worries, we got them in. We had to lift the drivers side of the engine about 2-3 inches for the dr. side header and the pass. side one slipped in with a little finessing. It is done and running now with no problems except for needing the chip reburned for the AIR pump, EGR and cats being gone now plus all the other mods I just did.
Here is a few pics of it completed.

well im a lil late haha ,but i just did mine 68478 or w.e for the 1983 Z28 5.7 with the Manual trans and they were a bit tight to get in but i removed valve cover on the drivers side and the plugs and basically dropped in , the flowtechs are easier but there smaller . not a bad header but there huge!

Re: Hedman header install help needed
I have a small block with two missing header bolts, near the firewall on the passenger side. I can't get the bolt started, my fingers can set the bolt in there, but no way to turn it once it's in there. I just can't get the bolt started.
Tips? Is there a thread that would get me some help?
Not that it matters, but the motor is a 406 with World Sportsman heads, I think it's the Hedman shorty/y pipe headers. Gonna run it at Milan Dragway on Wednesday, hoping to go mid 12's........ We'll see.

Re: Hedman header install help needed
Use a small head header bolt, 5/16" head or 3/8" head. Get a rubber hose 12-18" long that the bolt will fit into snugly. Place bolt in hole as best you can lining it up . Turn bolt from other end of hose...
