poppping sounds!
I have changed all the spark plugs and wires and it still making popping sounds. Some one told me I needed a new cat. Converter. I have dual cats. and one has been changed before and the other is still the orginal one. Popping sounds are not loud but you can hear it when you get behide the exhaust or I can feel it when I'm at a red light. Do I need a new Cat Converter?

Does it choke and stumble when you stomp on it or backfire when you let off the throttle? Set an SES light? If so, could be the cat. Happened with a newer BMW that I own, bad cat was the cause.

My light used to turn on when I get on the freeway. It would always turn on the freeways. Sometimes with I let the pedal off I hear the pops. But my service light doesn't turn on any more.

Did the bulb burn out? lol
The ses light usually lights for egr or cat fail reasons. If it runs poorly under heavy throttle, when passing, or when getting up to traffic speed in a hurry and all other systems are functioning, I'd suspect that the exhaust system is choking. Likewise, when it de-cellerates if you have light backfire igniting the unburned fuel in the exhaust. Those were similar symptoms with my beamer.
Have you taken it to an exhaust shop for analysis?

How big is your exhaust tubing? Also does it make poping noises when your on the highway going 70 and then let go of the gas? It could be your diverter valve. It controls your EGR... exhaust gas recirculation valve. That can cause poping noises if that goes bad. Look into that.

Re: poppping sounds!
Have you checked the timing? So your ses light doesnt come on at all? It should light up when you turn the key to the on position. It should come on when you try to retrieve codes.

Re: poppping sounds!
If you have a fuel leak, you are running lean, check the plug color, find the leak and fix it. Popping from exhaust can be caused by lean burning conditions...
