hooker headers 2055's prob!!

i just went 2 the shop. the new hooker headers i bought wont fit....! they are 2055's. with a 3'' collector. now, the problem is that the collector wont fit through the oppening between the transmission spot and one of the other parts on the other side. the guy in the shop showed me when he had the car lifted. not only that but when he took the stock headers off he cut the air valve line! assuming the hookers would fit. now i have 2 wait till monday for them 2 fix it!!!! anyone know if there are headers for my car??? when i ordered the ceramic hookers they said 86-92 camaro 5.0-5.7. my car is an 87 iroc-z. HELP!!!

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

Ive run those headers and they fit my 89 iroc.
I know plenty of others that have run them too.
Tell your mechanic to stop being a lil bich and make them work

First of all. MAN UP! Do it your self, its not hard! Just annoying.

These headers fit. I have them on my TransAm GTA. They were on the TPI engine, then I used them when I converted to a stealth ram, and now they are on the same car with my LT1 swap.

They do not fit easily. In some cases many things must be temporarily removed to make room to slide the headers in. They don't always go in from the bottom, though I think the driver side does. Passenger side only comes in from the top I think.

But its been done.

These headers DO fit our cars, there are probably at least a hundred members on these boards who have them.

See the install gallery below where i did heads/cam/intake/headers in a single day.

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

keep in mind your motor mounts are probably worn out and causing your motor to sag and ruining some of your clearance. dont blame the headers.

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

Thirdgen89GTA believe me when i tell u i wanted 2 do it by myself. i love learning experiences. but the situations where not right 4 the moment. its my daily driver, plus the cat was welded to the y-pipe. i have no idea how to weld or have the tools to do so. i had money so i wanted a pro shop 2 do it. now i'm in a tough situation because of this. and the hole is 2 1/2. the part that wouldnt go through was were u flange the y-pipe 2 the header.im just realy confused by the whole situation....had a bad day all day 2day bcuz of this

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

I bought a Probuilt tranny a while back and my 2055s would not fit either. He gave me a 700r4 that had, what I call "ears" at each side of the tranny causing my collector to hit. I put my old tranny and new one side by side and compared. So to make it work, I carfully cut the ears off, I also called him to make sure it was ok. I don't know if this is your problem or not, but other then that, mine fit perfectly.

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

My 88 gta has the ears on the bell housing. purchased a performa built and the ears were cut off. So i lost the mounting holes for the plastic inspection cover. How ever my 2055 cleared easily with both trannys. I had new motor mounts though!!!!!! You could cut or just clearance where needed. Sawzall or grinder to clearance.

I've had to cut the ears off for headers before, & it wasn't even a 3rdGen.

I hope your not missing a mount. That could be very bad. Replace it ASAP, it's not hard or expensive.

You can get it out of there, however there MAY be a labor charge. I'd fight it, they didn't do the job they said they would, and they damaged your car.

I can't say one way or the other as to how your air-tubes are damaged. These come directly off the exhaust ports so there IS a possibility of an open flame.

If there is any charge, I'd try and fight it.

Does anyone have a pic of these "ears"? I've never seen one, and I've had some 700r4s from quite a few different vehicles.

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

Honestly..Id go in the shop and just ask if you can cut it yourself and have them finish the job they quoted you.I dont recommend running the stock manifolds with the broken air tubes..for one..exhaust fumes that close to the motor and venting under the hood will be a smokey ride home.

Get in there..cut the ears yourself..they arent liable for that by any means..and then they can get back to work. The headers fit our cars beautifully..Ive re-used mine 4 times around..but then again..my motor was dropped in with the headers bolted on lol and never had issues with it around the tranny.Im also using poly motor mounts

Re: hooker headers 2055's prob!!

cutting the ears on 700r4 and 200-4rs are common with 2 1/2" and 3" collectors on alot of the V8 s10 swaps. just to tight to fit the flanges between the trans and frame. a sawzaw should do it or pull the trans and use a good grinder and a cutting wheel.

Maybe two different versions, the ones I have installed were all 2 1/2" with a 1 3/4" hole, I always had to cut them open.
I have a picture somewhere but I can't find it right now.

Agreed...the hole opening is around 1.9" from what I remember. I cut mine to 2.25" before selling them. Y pipe was 2.5" to single 3". Shouldnt have a 3" collector on 2055's (shorty smog legal AIR fittings headers)

Mine fit my 89 just fine. They are shortys, they shouldnt be that hard to get in the engine.
