Headers that will replace stock manifold w/o mods to Y-pipe?
Headers that will replace stock manifold w/o mods to Y-pipe?
Hi,
Looking for some bolt in headers to replace stock manifold on 85 TA w/ 350cid.
No emissions or computer controls on engine.
Has custom single 3" inch all the way from stock Y-pipe/collector back (no cat).
I've eliminated all the A/C stuff which free'd up enormous amounts of space as well.

well most of the headers have an optional y pipe to come with them. But it might not hook directly to your exhaust. Minor fab work may have to be done.
Re: Headers that will replace stock manifold w/o mods to Y-pipe?
Since there is no seperation for the cat in the exhaust, the optional Y-pipe would require cutting and rewelding into the 3" exhaust. I'd like to avoid that if possible and mount the headers to the existing (stock) Y-pipe since I don't have a welder.

Just cut your ypipe yourself , after you take off your stock manifolds then install your headers and drive it to the muffler shop. That is what I did. Easiest way IMO. Just don't get on the gas too hard.LOL. It will be f-ing loud! and slow.

Re: Headers that will replace stock manifold w/o mods to Y-pipe?
I cut my stock ypipe about six or seven inches or so from where it bolted up to the exhaust manifolds under the car. Take a look at your car and see where the easiest spot would be to cut your ypipe and take into consideration that a welder would need some clearance when he is welding your pipes back up. So, Probably like six inches or so down from the manifolds. Throw away what you just cut off. Now, you are going to have to cut the new ypipe too. Cut it off too at about six inches or so from where the exhaust manifolds would bolt up to it. Now you will have two small pieces of pipe with flanges that will bolt up to your headers. Attach the two small pieces of you pipe to your headers and drive it to the shop. Tell em you need it zipped up!

I'd think using the OE Y with headers defeat the purpose of high flow.

It does restrict the flow. The only reason i re-used my stock ypipe is because i have the N10 dual ypipe (2 1/4). Yeah, i know it is not the greatest but it is better than the single stock ypipe.
