NASCAR Exhaust

Has anyone ever tried the flat exhaust that the NASCAR guys use? I saw several of them for sale on EBAY. It would solve our clearance issues but they would probably have to exit in front of the rear tire or tires if you got two of them. I think they look awesome and one guy stated that they were heavy and would last a lifetime. It would not leave much room for a muffler especially if you had to put it beside the trans.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

I've seen a guy with a very well built third gen do the sort of exhaust setup you're talking about, custom made for his Camaro. I'll find pictures and post them up in a couple minutes.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

Here you go man. His exhaust is awesome, I sort of want to do something similar. I'm almost tempted to do it on my Mustang, like a 2000 Cobra R style exhaust. I hit a huge dip in a parking lot last week, and it ripped one of my Flowmasters clean off. I had to pay a buddy to beat out the flange on my X pipe, bolt the muffler back on, and spot weld it. It's almost completely impractical to have a lowered car. Driveways are a no no for me, I won't pull in gas stations that I'm not familiar with unless I'm out of state and it's something with a decent parking lot like a Wawa. I want a truck or a motorcycle bad.

Anyhow, here it is.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

You can buy those from Dr. Gas as flat tubes called Boom Tubes or as a muffler.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

I like how he used an E-cutout on one side and that small disc with holes in it on the other side as a muffler.

Can you get it quiet enough to street drive. I had no idea it had been done before. Love to see pictures of it installed. The Dr. Gas website is awesome. Kinda pricey but the oval bends and other pieces of pipe can be purchased cheaper at other places. The boom tube with the spintech design built-in muffler will be great. I am definately going this route I will just have figure out how to hang the boom tube and other stuff. If anyone has done this please post pics.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

Look at those pics. With the cutout closed, all of the exhaust goes through that muffler insert. It could reduce sound a bit but will very much limit topend power.

With a restrictive muffler insert like that, you should plan on opening the cutout if you are going to rev it high and don't want restrictions.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

This is how you do a cutout but still have all exhaust leaving one outlet.

Re: NASCAR Exhaust

Andris Skulte did something similar before he bailed on the thirdgen crowd.

Im trying to find pics of the rest of the setup.

Edit: Found some:

He bought ti like this off ebay I think from some Nascar team unloading old junk:

This is how it ended up:

Read his thread here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/exha...st-plenty.html

Note that there is no muffler, also that it's a turbo (v8) car, so he viewed the turbo as a sort of muffler.

I'd say if you had shorties and could find a suitable muffler to put in place of the cat, it could be done fairly well. There's a lot of room where the cat is.
