hole in exhaust pipe

Hey. just wondering if a hole in the pipe right before the cat could cause any real problems for me. I don't know for sure, but I'd guess that it would be a fairly expensive repair, and I don't know if it is something I can leave alone for now without any problems in the near future. any thoughts are appreciated.

Re: hole in exhaust pipe

it is something that requires attention . exhaust fumes inside a closed car can kill you . at the least smell bad and give you a headache . any auto parts store would have a temp. repair kit . a ghetto fix would be an old tin can & a couple of screw clamps . bottom line it does require attention soon . good luck .

Re: hole in exhaust pipe

alright thanks. I'll for sure get it fixed by the winter. for now, I'm not too worried bout it, because I always have my windows down. Just another cost to add to my list >_< . Any other car, I would never put up with all this lol.

Re: hole in exhaust pipe

That's really funny, I've got a leak in the same exact place. It has made me think about just removing the cat alltogether. The leak has been there since about April and has recently gotten louder. Definatley sounds like crap tho

Re: hole in exhaust pipe

soup can split down the side, and 3 hose clamps, quick fix as it rather flow out the pipe right.

Re: hole in exhaust pipe

The soup-can-fix or a patch kit would get you by for another few months.
After that, if it´s not too close to the cat, and provides some space to work with, you could have someone weld a piece of sheet over it. Just pick up a small bit of 2 1/2" exhaust pipe, cut about the patch you´ll need out of it and have the exhaust patched. The stock Y pipe is 2 1/4 so the 2 1/2" pipe should provide a perfect fit for a piece to patch with.

If you do however have some pocket money to spend, pick up a set of headers and a Y pipe, swap the cat in the process and enjoy the upgrade.

Re: hole in exhaust pipe

We'll have to see. I'm thinking of upgrading to a 3" Y-Pipe anyways. This is a perfect excuse to do so.

There is some stuff that i used a while back that actually worked called Thermosteel. I was surprised. Best to let it dry overnight tho
