Exhaust Clips for my engine build? Vortec 355 with short headers

im looking for exhaust clips. im debating wat to do to my car and and just looking around online for sound clips closest to my engine build as possiable. i want an aggressive sound but something that maximizes the sound of my cam as much as possiable at idle.

My motor is a Vortec 355 carbed edelbrock 600cfm with mild flat tapped cam. Headers that run ture duals side by side down the passenger side cut off beside the drive shaft before the back axel.

idk if i shuld keep it true duel or single my headers into 3in pipe. either way i go im not running anything out the back, im going to dump anything i put on before the axel. No cat just straight pipe or maybe a flowmaster where the cat goes. i found a dual in dual out super 44 flowmaster i could get for 100 new. but idk wat i should do. also dont have a deep pocket budget for this either.

if anyone knows where i can see/hear exhaust clips for my engine build id appreciate a link or two ^_^

Re: Exhaust Clips for my engine build? Vortec 355 with short headers

ive got a few diff videos of diff exhaust setups i had on my 82 trans am it had a cammed 305 milled 416s edelbrock carb and intake. i had hooker shortys on it no cat 2 1/4 catback and magnaflow then went to hedman longtubes with 2 1/2 true duals with single chamber flowmasters dumped and it was obnoxious then went to a single 3.5in exhaust with a cutout then over the axle into a stock 4thgen muffler and this was my fav setup it had a very unique sound both cutout open and closed. here are the clips.

Mild flat tappet cam, (218/224 @ .050) Vortec heads, dual 3 inch pipes into moroso spiral flows. The difference is I have long tubes.

Exhaust is VERY different now, but thats the closest to your configuration.

Infernal, my exhaust is ran like the one in your video, does the 90s on the end of the mufflers make it any quieter? I was going to put some on mine but didn't know if would help quieten it down.

Ground clerance can be an issue then and how close the driverside will be to your fuel lines. Not to mention it gets obnoxious inside the car if you drive it much imo.

If you've got shorties buy a proper catback. That's the point of shorties. If you just want to run duals to the axle that's what long tubes are for. Shorties allow for much more practical exhaust options than LT's do, as someone who's been driving a LOUD Camaro for years, if I could find a good quiet 3.5 inch muffler (I have a single 3.5 system now) that allowed for any performance, I'd have it already.

That dual system I had allowed for 3 inches of ground clearance. Go measure the distance between the ground and your transmission crossmember. And then subtract the diameter of your proposed piping , because that's how much ground clearance you're going to have if you run duals straight to the axle. You'll find it isnt very much.

It makes it quieter for the people behind you. It bounces the sound off the ground under the car, gives it more rumble presence all around than just pointing it at the poor person following you down the road. Doesn't really quieten anything, though.

I know when I added my turndowns to the duals I ran it helped greatly with the sound inside the car but it was still obnoxious. You can build a nice y pipe for the longtubes that still flows well but you still have that lack of ground clerance under the crossmember unless you have a t5 car and build a crossmsmber that's notched to tuck the pipes up closer.

Re: Exhaust Clips for my engine build? Vortec 355 with short headers

I'm running a vortec headed 355 in my 83, with shorty headers, 1 5/8 primary to 2.5 collectors to a 3" cat back, high flow cat, with a Ravin Muffler. If you live in southern Ontario I can point you in the right direction to get one. Check out my exhaust sound at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KkEVNK7DB8 The last 10 seconds of the video show the exhaust note.
