Re: Hooker 2460 Copmpetition headers

Im going to be doing some engine bay work this afternoon so I will go ahead and make a video.

Biggest thing was grinding down the lips on the openings in order to make a good seal. The gaskets that came with them pretty much suck.

Also some brake lines on the drivers side were pretty close so I had to bend them out of the way.

Take off the starter also (duh)

Hey there iron - while you are at that, could you also get me a measurement on how far the passenger header extends from the head face?

I have a rhd conversion with the steering column going right through that area, wondering if there's clearance for the 2460's.

psht If only I wasn't so angry at the moment haha.

Here is a picture of 2460's with the lip. What I did was grinded down the lips until flat and flush.

that was a bad move grinding down the lip, your'e supposed to leave it there because it helps make a tighter seal around the exhaust port, now the gaskets will be blowing out a lot sooner

Nah my lip was literally 1/4 of an inch high and uneven across the entire thing. If I didn't grind them down at least some when I put the bolts in it would have bent the plate.

I ground them down to around 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch and tacked on half moon washers to prevent the plate from cracking. My headers have a great seal and Im proud I did them all by myself lol.

I had no problems installing mine and went in quite easily from the top. However, all my smog equipment is removed.

Re: Hooker 2460 Copmpetition headers

What's the difference between the Hooker 2055's and 2460's? Is one better than the other?

Re: Hooker 2460 Copmpetition headers

2460s are slightly heavier and sturdier. They do NOT include a Y-pipe. There is a Y-pipe sold separately for them that is awful. The 2055's include a y-pipe, and it's one of the best off the shelf y-pipes available for our cars. Generally the 2055's are the better option.

Re: Hooker 2460 Copmpetition headers

I have the 2460 headers And they tuck in perfectly.....I agree on the y pipe not being up to par though since mine would not even seal on the driver side flange......I'm gonna see what I can do with it again once I put my engine back together and reinstall the headers.....these prolly would not have been my choice of headers if I wouldn't have gotten the deal I got on them.....the y pipe is also pretty costy and is only 2 1/2 inch diameter

Re: Hooker 2460 Copmpetition headers

I just installed ceramic coated 2460's on my 83 305 TA. They dropped in fine. I used Mr Gasket aluminum gaskets and didn't touch the flanges on the headers at all. Plug access isn't too bad, although there are several plugs that I had to snug up with an open end wrench. Plug wires are close in spots, but the ceramic coating seems to help keep them from burning. I recommend a reduced head header bolt. I used a Dougs Y pipe and it bolted up like it was made for it. I had to modify the big rear AC bracket, but it was just a cut/grind/file thing.

So far I can't complain too much, but my car is still in the build stage (no doghouse, weather stripping, etc) and I haven't been able to drive it any further than up and down the driveway.

I've had other headers on other cars in the past, and this combo is the first that bolted up in the garage without a trip required to the muffler shop afterward. Ceramic coating is a must in my opinion. The stainless Edelbrocks that I had on my LT1 Caprice looked like crap after the first time I ran them to warm up, and they took forever to cool off.

Is that a Dougs D901 y-pipe that fits the 2460's? Just want to know for my research.

Yes, that's it. It fit great. It hangs a little lower than the K member, but i didn't mind because this car will remain stock height.
