Mid length header that comes straight back

Off hand, can anyone think of a shorty or mid length header, in a 1 3/4" primary that on the left (driver) side sweeps back, rather than turns towards the oil pan?

Thirdgen shorty's cannot be used with dual exhaust for this very reason, they are made for a y-pipe.

The only thing I could think of offhand is the ¾-length headers you can get for the old 70's G bodies (they work great on 67-72 trucks). Short of making your own, that's all I know in a mid-length. I'm not really sure if even those can be had with 1¾" primary, though.

Hrmm. I might have to order a pair and try. All thirdgen headers appear designed to work with a y-pipe, which is not what I want. I need something that goes straight back on the drivers side like the passenger side does.

Maybe even S10 v8 swap headers?

Well not so much that they're designed to use a Y pipe as they're designed to cross over. There's not much room to run pipe inside the frame rails, so if you're going to run pipe straight back you may as well use long tubes... which are really mid-length.

The problem is Hooker 2210 have ground clearance issues, and the hedman longtubes don't gover a felpro 1406, nor do they flow enough for my combo...

I've done true duals with headman shorties, with a moroso kick out pan, maybe killed flow but possible. You maybe able just to use a chop saw and straighten it, I also had my slps rebuilt to clear my k memeber. Not above customizing headers, I'm also running true duals with original routing for y pipe, took care of ground clearance issues.

I thought about the SLP's. I'd have to see what they look like. Not many companies make a 1 3/4" shorty. But 1 3/4" is about the minimum I'd need.

Too bad the 2210s are soo low. The set I had was all smashed from ground contact. Fine for a track car, not so good for the back roads of New Hampshire...

Hooker 2460 isn't designed for a Y-pipe but, it doesn't meet your 1¾" primary requirement either.
They are the ones I used for my exhaust...

His headers look nice, similar to SLP's. However, they are meant for a y-pipe, and are very expensive. Probably a good bargain for the Cali boys with their strict emissions standards.

I'm at the point where I'm considering just making a set using a summit kit. I have a tig..

I agree with you on that one, I have true duals running y pipe style it is possible. You can just build them yourself like a real bad ***! Go for it!

Dyno Don's headers are cheaper than ceramic coated Hooker 2055's...

$800 with y-pipe...

2055's ceramic coated are $700.

(just saying)

I spoke with Don, and he isn't interested in making a set that sweeps back on the driver side for guys like me with 3" pipes that straddle the transmission. It would probably cost him more to make a special Jig for a potential of only a few sales, can't blame him.

Why the aftermarket doesn't make 1 3/4 headers for thirdgen is beyond me..
Ebay is filled with STAINLESS 1 5/8" shorty headers for $160 a set. If they made 'em in 1 3/4" they would sell boat loads.. A Summit weld up kit, with flanges for a 1 3/4" shorty header is around $160. Maybe I should start making these things. I do have a TIG.
