Header Mod questions

Me and My Dad have started th header mod for my 1989 Trans am 305 t.b.i., yesterday we took off all the A.I.R. getting ready for the header installation. There was a black box, with the A.I.R. hoses runing to it, so we removed the black box, but there were two seperate wires that pluged in to the black box. What happens/ What should we do with these wires? Also were orded all of our stuff from summit raceing and we noticed that there was no bung for the EGR sensor. Does the sensor then get eliminated or no? We've researched all of the header post on how to do it, but no one ever said anythin about the two wires and the EGR sensor.

Re: Header Mod questions

EGR is under the intake, and those wires will do nothing just leave them hanging.

Don't mean the O2 sensor do you? You'll be needing that. What headers?

Re: Header Mod questions

I ran into the header/O2 sensor issue with my headman shortys. You gotta have your O2 sesnsor and if your headers dont have a bung for it to screw into, you can take the header any muffler shop and they can weld a bung in for you. I had mine done at Midas where a buddy happens to work.

Re: Header Mod questions

Yup, with any kind of electronic fuel injection, gotta have the O2 sensor.

Re: Header Mod questions

Here's an update on my son's header mod. The bung for the o2 senser we orderd was wrong it had 1/8th in. threads imagine that. We broke the oil dipstick tube while removing it. We also broke the solinoid on the starter trying to remove header bolts on the passanger side [we had to use a blow torch on 3 of the bolts out. Thats right we got medievil on its a##] Between the A.I.R. & mainifold removal 4 & 1/2 hrs. Install starts today. Providing autozone has the parts I ordered

Re: Header Mod questions

Update on the header mod. Yesterday we got the passanger side header on after we unbolted the motor mounts and jacked the motor up,waited on parts got the bung welded on about 4:00 and called it a day. Started at 7:30 done at 2:00 after the smoke cleared 15 minutes later i took it on the road. What a huge diffrence. We also did the the open air element mod 2 days prior. Everything I've been able to do and expect as a problem on this mod has been avalable on this site [reasearch] so thank you all who responded with my questions. Now I've got to go research how to get rid of tis 2.73 rear end.
