Re: want a new muffler
A flow master 80 series fits right on. I have it on my 86 iroc 305 with stock manifolds and high flow cat and it sounds pretty badass

Re: want a new muffler
Are your "stock headers" exhaust manifolds or headers because they're two different things. If indeed you do have headers your exhaust will sound a lot better and louder but if you have the stock exhaust manifolds (the ones that came with the car from the factory) then the exhaust will still sound pretty good especially if you have a hallowed cat. It won't be too obnoxiously Loud but people will hear you rolling down the block. YouTube also has a lot of videos that could help you choose the best exhaust setup for you.

Re: want a new muffler
It's what ever came from the factory it does have a lil rumble with the quiet flow but it just don't have a meaty deep rumble that I would like

Re: want a new muffler
If you want a better sound and not super loud and also want to keep the stock lookng tailpipes a Flowmaster 80 is not too bad. My 3.1 RS has an 80 on it and it's not bad even on a v6.

I just put a Dynomax Super turbo on my GTA 5.7. Has a nice low bass rumble at idle a nice growl when you stomp on the gas. But not as loud as a flow master. If you want loud and agressive get flowmaster.
I got the catback for $212 from Summit. Flowmasters will set you back around $800 ish.

Do you have the 2.5 inch from the y-pipe to the muffler on this 80 series? I just purchased this muffler and i am waiting for spring to a 2.5 system

I think you should be ok as long as you add a resonator in the middle of the muffler and cat and you should be good giving the flowmaster good tone

Re: want a new muffler
This is from Flowmasters site = 80 series muffler
✓ Aggressive and powerful exterior exhaust tone
✓ Noticeable interior resonance
✓Made in the USA.
You will hear the exhaust and engine in the car with the 80 series.I have the American Thunder Flowmaster 3" cat back and I go without playing the stereo most of the time just to listen to the car. Love it. As mentioned earlier if you want a sleeper at idle with a nice growl at WOT than the Magnaflow seems to be a popular choice.

Yes a Turbo muffler is a BIT louder than stock, but IMO not even worth buying. When I had my 72 Nova it had a mild 307, Headman long tubes and some turbo mufflers dumped. The car was about as loud as my Dad's stock Ram 4.7 exhaust. I put some Flowmaster 40's on there and it sounded awesome!

Re: want a new muffler
As for the topic, I have a Magnaflow on my Trans Am, and I like it a lot more than the Flowmaster on my IROC.
The Magnaflow doesn't really drone at all. You can hear it, but it doesn't get mind numbing like the Flowmaster. It also has a real nice tone to it.
As you can tell, I would recommend the Magnaflow.

I don't own one so I don't know how close this video is to representing a Magnaflow exhaust. I have only heard them from a distance. You must scroll down a little to see the video.
