3" pipe from cat to muffler replace

89 GTA w/ single catback

I have what I ***think*** is an aftermarket setup from the cat to the single flowmaster, just one 3" pipe. That 3" pipe has some rust thru so It'll need replacing.

Anyone make a replacement for that pipe?

This is how my wife asks questions. Honey can you get me the thing in the room?

Take a picture because no one knows if it was modified or what flanges it uses or what aftermarket parts are there. Your best bet is to go to an exhaust shop and get one made.

Yeah, youre right. Thats a poor way to ask a question.

I just want to know if theres a "name" for the pipe between the cat and the muffler - 'intermediate' perhaps?

I am running into the same problem. You can get a 2.5" inermediate pipe, but not 3".
Walker used to make a 2 piece setup, but apparently unavailable now. Has anyone found a solution to this other than a custom bent one?

Re: 3" pipe from cat to muffler replace

You best bet to get a cheap pre bent pipe would be to buy the 3" system from summit

What is the original size for the intermediate pipe? On my 86 Trans Am 305 there seems to be mounted a pipe with diameter 2 3/4 with the ends 2 1/2, though I haven't measured exactly. It is also rusted

Trying to convince Dyno Don to make some of these up. Maybe if enough of us ask he will take a shot at it.

Along with a disclaimer that it is made to fit his systems and may not work, custom built and no returns.

Re: 3" pipe from cat to muffler replace

Been to every one around here. No one will touch it, need a mandrel machine to make that bend over and around the axle without kinking the 3". I have a little while to weigh my options. May just get one of those summit kits and sell the extra new parts I'll have left over.

Re: 3" pipe from cat to muffler replace

Yep,

Jegs has a pretty cheap catback as well.

I'm getting the hearthrob pipes because I don't want a crossflow muffler, so I will use a different one. No reason to buy a full catback when I won't use the muffler and tail pipes.
