4 inch muffler recommedation..

Im currently running the mufflex 4 in. system with the magnaflow race muffler. It is a little on the loud side. Im fine with it. And all my neighbors in my current neighborhood are cool with it.

im going to be moving into a H.O.A neighborhood soon. Id just like to have a couple of suggestions on some quieter 4' oval mufflers so i can kinda get mt ducks in a row.

I did a quick search, but didnt find much on the issue.

Don't use the Hooker AirFlow one. I have that one and you can see straight through it. Maybe you can get one of those bolt on defuser tips that have baffles built in?

All 4" mufflers are basically loud. Only one that may have a shot is the spintech crossflow one, that mufflex sells in that kit. Looks like a stock type muffler except 4" in dual 3" out muffler.

Re: 4 inch muffler recommedation..

i talked to another member a few weeks back about this, he had the magnaflow race and went to a flowmaster.

heres a jegs link.

he said it was substantially quieter, but i havent talked to anyone else about it.

They sound amazing but oh my god are they loud.

It was only after I took it off one day that I realized how much it was actually muffling the volume, because before then I was thoroughly unconvinced it did anything at all. Im considering switching to a Hooker Aerochamber to quiet it down. they dont make those in 4 inch, though.

If I were you I'd consider running two mufflers in line or splitting it into two 3 inch pipes after the axle. The Flowmaster 50 is another idea, if you go that route be sure to post up a before and after sound clip because I'm curious about that one myself. I dont really like promoting the stereotype of [uneducated ignorant southerner] thirdgens and I think my car doesn't, except for the volume level.

Re: 4 inch muffler recommedation..

I have a spintech 4x3x3 and it is the best sounding muffler I have ever had and I am nearly 50 years old and have had them all. It is amazingly quiet at an idle and part throttle but does get loud at WOT. I also have a 90 ZR-1 with a borla system that sounds about as well but the LT-5 cannot be compared to a regular SBC. It is an entirely different kind of engine but the spintech is awesome and I highly reccomend them.
