Re: Gun Shot Sound
my thought
as car sits over night, fuel is leaking into exhaust and collecting in muffler-so when u hit the starter the fuel is ignited and boom it sounds like a shot.
so were is leak coming from-leakey injector-do a leak down check-to verify
then pull them and have them cleaned and flow checked.

Re: Gun Shot Sound
it happens sometimes. Fuel getting in the exhaust.
But if this happens everyday or even every other day then yeah you most likely have a leak

Re: Gun Shot Sound
Today i realized previous owner had all the spark plugs wired hooked up wrong i hooked up all of them correctly and followed the sequence from my other trans am the thing now is car cranks but wont start -_- atleast is not shooting blanks lol...can it be possible that misfiring can mess up the fuel pump or maybe cyl's got messed up?

How did u figure out all ur plug wired were on wrong......????????
i think u need to find TDC #1 and then go from there.... i have seen dizzys that were out by a tooth that can be compensated for by plug wires routed correctly for the out a tooth dizzy but would look funny compared to a stock engine dizzy...

What you need to do is put some masking tape down on your intake manifold below your distributor on the number 1 plug area.
1. Remove distributor cap.
2. bump engine over until it gets to #1 compression stroke. To do this, pull #1 spark plug and have a friend put a finger over the hole and you bump over the starter and have them tell you when it blows air. They will know.
3. Check the balancer to see if the timing mark is close to the witness mark on the point. If it isn't, turn the engine over until it is. Do it with the starter or by hand with a socket on the balancer bolt. If the socket starts to turn and the engine does not, stop. Just leave it alone. Make sure to rotate the engine clockwise.
- The important part -
4. If your rotor is pointing at the number 1 cylinder, good. Leave it. If it is not, you remove it and drop it in in the right spot. Most likely it's fine, if it's even in the neighborhood, it's fine. If it's pointing straight to the front or straight to the side towards that side of the engine, that's fine.
5. Put your masking tape in front of the rotor. use a sharpie or marker and put a mark showing exactly where the rotor is pointing.
6. Reinstall distributor cap.
7. Rewire plugs.
- The fun part -
You KNOW you're very close or on top of the #1 compression stroke. You KNOW where the rotor is at this point in the engine's rotation. Now you set your distributor cap down and put the #1 terminal over the top of the mark you made on your masking tape. Most likely it will not want to start with zero timing advance. It may start, and it's worth trying, but it probably wont. Now you need to rotate the distributor to get the timing in a sweet spot where the engine likes it enough to start. If the terminal is directly over the rotor at #1, rotate it counter clockwise some. Try again.
You do this over and over. Somewhere between having the #1 terminal and rotor on top of each other, and having the rotor pointing at the #8 terminal at TDC, it will fire. Ideally you have someone cranking the car and you rotate the distributor around a little in that range until it lights off. It should take you no more than a minute or two.
