Sounded real good out in the open like that. Not as loud as your earlier clip. How do you like it now that you've run it a little bit 25th?

Ran it all day today, its a completely different feeling. It pulled hard up through 6200, consistent.

I have a rev video, I just have to try and load it...

Re: Mufflex Y Pipe + exhaust

With this new exhaust system, I gained 1 full second and over 10 mph on my time slip. from 12.97 @ 105.9 to 11.92 @ 116.7

I lost ground when I had to shift into 4th gear around 106mph. Time to look at new gearing.

Re: Mufflex Y Pipe + exhaust

Wow, i've been out of the loop for a little bit. All this information will be put to good use. My Mufflex system just arrived this week with the Y-Pipe and 4" Flowmaster Cat Back. I'm hoping that i won't have too much trouble with the install. Thats a lot of pipe to fit under there. I'm also concerned about the pipe going over the axle. How did that go for you 25th?? Heck, i'm going to print out everything you did and use it for a manual...f-ing nice job!!

It actually fits perfect, I had to take one of the heat shields off. I thought about getting a panhard bar relocation kit but not really needed.

Re: Mufflex Y Pipe + exhaust

The most difficult part was "Notching" the transmission cross member. I have a pic somewhere, i'll post it. To compensate for structural loss, I took a small angle iron and welded it to the top half. Again, i'll post picture.....

It looked to me that i might have to trim the heat shield a bit just by looking at it quickly. I'm thinking of wrapping the pipe with that heat shield crap before installing it since it's very close to the gas tank.

I'm away with the Army until Tuesday so i don't get to play this weekend...

This one indicates the crossmember installed, you can see the notch in the driver side. Passenger side only needed a notch on the front half of it, towards the engine.

This one you'll see the angle iron I welded on the top.

Nice work. I have the torches and welder ready just in case i have the same issues. I'll be mocking it up this week. My engine mounts are a little older so they might have settled enough for me to avoid surgury. Time will tell..

Damn ... That's awesome ! ... I'm hoping a new exhaust system will get me about a half second in the 1/8th ... But I'm just gonna go with 3.5" seeing as I only have 310 cu. In. Lol ... Right now I'm runnin cheapo shorties with only 1.5" primaries with all crush bent BS exhaust system 2.5" y into 3" all way back to a crossflow ... I'm gonna go with some Hooker tuned length longtubes and either 2.5" true duals run down one side or a single 3.5"

91' bird 305 TBI T-5, trick flow 175 cc heads, 4.10 gears, lots of suspension upgrades. 24mpg @ 2500rpm hwy. 8.80@ 84mph 1/8th on street tires... 8.000's soon

Re: Mufflex Y Pipe + exhaust

Well just got done doing the Mufflex install. The Y-Pipe was quite challenging but after a few test fits was able to get it installed properly without trimming the crossmember. After that it was a piece of cake. Drove it on the street for the first time in over 8 years yesterday and the sound from this sytem (w/Flowmaster) is amazing. The crew at Mufflex were super helpful as were all the tips i received from the folks on here. I don't have any pics available but could do some if anyone was interested.

On the down side i blew the gasket out of the back of the intake manifold on it's maiden voyage and pissed oil everywhere. No fear though, had the intake off last night in about 30 minutes and got the new gasket on lunch today. Should be going in no time, as long as this rain stops soon....

Re: Mufflex Y Pipe + exhaust

I know this thread is old, but wondering how everyone is liking their long tubes and mufflex? I'm going to be installing L/T with the Mufflex y and 4" Magnaflow for my 383 to breathe. I think my Hooker 2055's are choking at the collector and not allowing my motor to fully exhale!

I noticed a drastic seat-of-the-pants difference in performance. I don't regret it, I also got the 4" MagnaFlow.

I'm also leaning towards the Magnaflow. Is the noise level too much for the street? The one where you are driving away it doesn't seem too loud.

It's more Throaty than loud. I'm sure if a cop wanted a reason to pull me over, he would cite me a noise violation. But haven't yet in 2 years that I had this exhaust

My setup:

Lts
Mufflex Y-pipe
nothing else, wide open
My WOT sound (with my FULLY worked intake) is similar to an angel screaming.
