installing headers tomorrow! need help!

I'm putting in the hooker headers 2055s, and need to know the part number of the shorty spark plugs that I need if I'm using the accel 4048 wire set. Or can I use the OEM wires that I have now and just swap the plugs for shortys?

And if you have a better recommendation for wire set and plugs let me know ASAP bc I'm doing this tomorrow!

prepare to bake plug wires, the starter, and boil the brake fluid in the lines. theres a LOT more to it than just bolt them on and go. they are worth it for power production. but you have to change/ modify a lot of things to make them work and not f up stuff.

Re: installing headers tomorrow! need help!

My Edelbrock shorties required the following mods.

Spark plug wires/plugs. Needed 90* boots and shortish plugs (ngk UR4)
Move brake lines away from tubes. They were 1/4" from the tubes.
Shield fuel lines. They were also less than 1/4" away.
Mini starter posed no problems.

many "header" users.have to use smaller starters, or make a heat shield and that is only a stop gap fix. others have to relocate the brake lines away from the headers. then theres the plug wires/ shorty plugs that play all manner of hell with access. lord help you if you happen to have angle plug heads. its not that im not header friendly .its that IMHO they aren't worth all the BS that it takes to make them work, day in and day out. on a street car. read up on it .theres much more to it than just install them and all will be ok

So far from the research that I have done Ive decided that i need shorty plugs with 90 boots and 8 mm wires(but I have 7 mm on now), new header bolts, header gaskets, and exhaust insulating wrap btw this is all for the hooker headers 2055, so what else am I missing?

Re: installing headers tomorrow! need help!

When you buy gaskets, get copper collector and exhaust gaskets. Torque them down, the retorque after a few hours of running. (and recheck every so often)The typical paper gaskets blow out in no time. Reroute your brake lines to the outside of the steering shaft. Plug wire looms help out a lot too.
Edit: Sorry 2055s have a ball flange, not gasketed collectors.

Re: installing headers tomorrow! need help!

i have hooker competition shorty headers, and i'll give you the breakdown of how i have gotten mine setup finally.

when putting in the headers, the drivers side is the easy side to do, the passenger side requires a little work. its easiest to have the starter just in there loosely, put the starter wrap on while its loose. also before trying to put in the passenger side header, take out all the spark plugs, if you need to replace the overheat switch, that'll make the install easier. i used copper gaskets for my headers, put antiseize each bolt, tighten from the center ones out. to get the bolt next to the firewall, found it easiest to use a stubby 3/8 rachet with a 1" wobble extension to a 7/16 crowsfoot. after theyre all tightened, dont forget to tighten the starter
if you're running an oxygen sensor, worry about that last, you need to snip the old wire and extend it, so screw in the o2 sensor (use antiseize) then i just soldered the wire together with section to extend it.
when you use the hooker headers Y-pipe (if you are) coat each side of the aluminum gasket with copper RTV, mine leaked for a long time until i took care of that.
for my spark plug wires i got the MSD street fire 8mm wires, the ones MSD said were a direct fit were all straight boot wires, so i had to snip off all the boots and put on right angle ones. i didn't use shorty plugs, but my heads are angled plugs so it worked out fine for me.

thats my .02
