I am replacing my whole exhaust. I have stock exhaust currently on my 83 trans am.
Do vortecs have different bolt holes for headers then a stock trans am head?

I am also wondering if any of you had tried these products.

I also don't know how to fill the hole where I am going to get rid of my cat.
Is is possible to put a glass pack where the cat was and then run straight pipes all the way back?

I know 3 In. is better but it seems to double in price.

 

I don't know about the Vortecs' but this is for your stock heads.
This is the style Y pipe you want. Not that T connection that's as bad as stock.
These headers and Y are designed to fit together and come up in the search using your car.

You can bolt regular headers to vortec heads no problem. I bolted hooker 2460s to my vortec heads without issue and the summit house brand headers.

Those both look like great products. I saw that Y-pipe but I had not found headers in my budget. Thanks.

With that said what is the best combo to go with those headers and ypipe (cat back/glasspack) and how could I potentially delete the Cat?

 

The first question you have to answer, is do you need emissions?

Only then can you decide if you want to delete the cat.

The ones Ron listed are good. If you need emissions, here are these: They come with a Y-pipe so there is no issue with bolt up but might be a little more expensive.

I highly recommend that, if you can afford it, get them Jet-Hot coated. You'll never regret it.

Hey hey! I'm from there. St. Cloud area. Moving back next fall it looks like as well. Where about do you live?

For the car, then I'd get the 2460's that Ron mentioned and the y-pipe that goes with it ONLY if budget is your concern.

If you can afford it in any way, maybe talk to Dyno Don, but Dyno don and Hooker 2055's, both come with y-pipes so are a more expensive compared to just the headers, are specifically built for our cars. The 2460's are more generic for "Chevy/Pontiac" and may not fit as nicely.

Headers and y-pipe won't do much if you don't do the whole exhaust. If you drive your car at all in the winter, you'll need a stainless steel set up. Alumenized just gets tore up. Magnaflow makes a pretty good set up, but it's more of a mellow sound, so depending on what you are looking for regarding "loudness". either way, 3", stainless steel. Aerochamber muffler's are pretty good and are some of the best flowing mufflers out there.

 

Well I have the headers and Y pipe chosen which is about $500. My budget is $1000 I would like to keep it around $800.
I like flowmaster but I don't like the fact it outlets two ports from the muffler. what are aerochamber mufflers? Straight pipes almost? My thought is to get a glass pack and then split pipes after that. Not sure how that would work.
I'm looking for loud.
Also any good cheap cats in my budget?

These cars were designed for a 3" single in, dual out cross-flow muffler. YOu can do single-in, singel-out mufflers, or just one muffler, but it's going to be loud. Also, if you ask me, only one pipe coming out the back of our cars looks wrong. If you want loud, flowmaster 40 series is pretty loud. I personally don't like it. I can't carry on a conversation with my wife or kids when just cruising.

If you go into the exhaust section, you can search for exhaust examples. There are lots of sound bites of the various exhaust people have.

 

When next I buy headers, them's it! Hmm, I can sell my hookers... lol Stop it Dyno Don! You're giving me bad ideas!
