bad edelbrock header review
so a guy brings me these headers and complains that theyre leaking near the collector gasket area. first i was amazed how small the collector pipe actually was,...about 2 3/8"!

not welded all the way around for some reason?

(thought i'd include the model number since the pic doesnt clearly show it. part #65663. seems to be for a late 80's-early 90's chevy truck. shortys).

Guess That's One Of the Reasons They Completely Dropped Their Exhaust System Products.

Edelbrock headers were always inferior quality, even back in the 80's when the cars were still being made and things were better.

Wow,.... messed those headers up pretty good. I assume that you did not realize that the mounting flanges are just that - mounting flanges. Exactly how do you expect the donut gasket to seal now ???

I'm guessing that you might be able to save those headers,...... if you can grind out all the welding you did without harming the actual header pipe.

Re: bad edelbrock header review
Maybe I'm wrong. Just realized that these are truck headers. I've got no experience with those and perhaps a generic flat gasket is what's called for. I was wrong to assume that you were dealing with Thirdgen Headers........
Re: bad edelbrock header review
I had 3rd shorties at one time (and they may have been Edelbrocks for that matter).
The ball and socket sealing flange was a miserable piece of crap. I ultimately cut it off and modified the header and y-pipe for a conventional 3 bolt flange. They worked great after that and went on to someone else's ride years later.

Re: bad edelbrock header review
yes, they take a regular flat gasket. i recommended the Percy's aluminum gaskets. the guy seemed happy and has not complained.
