Best flow?!

Hey guys,

I want to know, down right, hands down who has the best flow?

1. Flow master (what series?)
2. Dyno max
3. Hooker (one im considering most)

The sounds is ones own opinion, but who makes POWAH?!

Is there someone im forgetting?

Also, SLP coated 1 3/4 headers, Y-pipe, 3" exhaust to a.. say.. a single hooker. Will that flow better than my true dual glaspack 2 1/2 with H-pipe?

yes i know i know, glasspacks are *******.. but i get alot of comments on the tone, its kinda a neat setup i spose, deffinatly original

I just got a new catback recently, and the exhaust shop I went to had flow tests of a whole bunch of different exhausts. I do remember that the flowmasters were suprisingly low on the list.
The hooker and dynomax were in the upper half of the list, I dont remember exactly where. I do remember the top 3 though, they were Borla, SLP, and magnaflow.
The flowtests were not car specific, so they may be different with ones made for different cars. I went with the magnaflow because it was not that expensive. None of the top 3 are as loud as the ones your looking at though.
Hope that helps at least a little bit.

i think dynomax has pretty good flow, depending on which one u get. they have some that flow 1000 CFM. but it might be a little too loud.

I'm not sure which flows the best, but Mark A Sheilds will be here in a little while to tell u to get the Aerochamber.

Actually, number 2 has the best flowing mufflers as far as I know. I haven't seen any actual flow comparisons with the Aerochamber, but the manufacturer claims 441CFM for Aerochamber and 595CFM for the Maximum Flow. Who knows if those are really correct. I'd like to see actual flow tests not done by them compared to others, they seem kinda high.

well i would say the mufflex single 4" would out flow them all...
with your choice of muffler but prob (flowmaster/spintech)
i can also tell you on my supercharged 10 second camaro
with long tube headers uncapped - 10.60 @ 128
w/y pipe connected to single 3" flomaster - 10:80 @ 126
not that bad of a loss through a 500+ hp motor.

I keep hearing lately about Vortech, where can you can this and who makes the muffler? Also, is it a direct replacement?

HERE I AM

Get the Hooker what else. Really, it's up to you I'd suggest the Hooker but then again I haven't heard a Camaro with SLP. And I believe there was a sound clip of the Dynomax, even though it may flow better, it sounded like crap to me. If you want the best flow then Hooker isn't for you, I never said the Hooker outflows everything, just flowmaster.

I have a walker #17227 muffler. If you are looking for a very high flow muffler with a quite sound this is it. If there is a sound clip of it on a third gen I don't know about it. Not many people have it because it is not offered as a kit from Walker for our cars, but a kit can be pieced together. The muffler I have has a flow rating of 940 CFM @ 20.3" water. Check it out here

Why doesn't Dynomax make a muffler with a 3" inlet for our cars? They don't really have many at all with 3" inlets, what gives?

This may sound stupid to some of you, but I have a question about all of this. If flow is everything to gain power, how come I have personally seen vehicles with mufflers do 1-2 tenths quicker in the 1/4 than the same vehicle without? Case in point, my ex-wifes courier (ford) pickup with a 302 went 2 tenths quicker with flowmasters than it did with open pipe to the front of the rear tires? I I really don't understand all of this backpressure/flow thing.

Because there's a different between solid FLOW, and vollocity...

Exhaust is designed for scavaging, thats why I refuse to run mufflex 4", and am really sketchy about single 3.5".....

Yea you can dump a chit load of air into a big pipe, but the momentum of it wont pull the air behind it.

Thats why I'd like dual 3", its small enough to scavage, but big enough for a fairly wild 383.

Ultra flow p/n 17227. Crossflow muffler w/3" side inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. Go to their website...they have a list of ALL (summit and jegs don't.....) their mufflers and all the specs...pretty sure you can find a super turbo muffler with those specs if you don't want to spend that much. But let me tell you, the ultra flow muffler outflows just about any aftermarket muffler out there (along the order of 1000 CFM) and sounds ok. Done the research and I've decided to order the whole 3" dynomax cat back (p/n 44063,43248) and the ultraflow to top it off all for about $230.
