Hey everyone! Just bought a factory style N10 replacement y-pipe and catback.
I am looking for the clamp or whatever is used to connect the two. I have the y-pipe in so far, but the cat back is still on the way so I can't piece them together just yet.
From the looks of the y-pipe it looks to be some sort of V-band, but i could be mistaken.
It's an early attempt at a V-band. GM ditched the band clamp somewhere around 91.5 in favor of a slip flange. If you're changing stuff anyway, you might want to cut it off and weld on a typical V-band, or use a slip fit connection, they'd probably seal better and not rust as quickly.
And there are 2 versions of that V band clamp that I've seen. (If you want to get super silly)
It'd be really neat if the damn thing didn't leak. Of course it could be that I've had that joint apart a few times and it's on it's second clamp... At any rate, when the project goes together I'm probably not going to use that clamp/setup.
Rock Auto had the clamp when I looked it up earlier today.
Walker Exhaust has an entire PDF catalog of just hangers on their website. You can try to match up what you want, or just see if there's something you can make work. You can also look up exhaust systems on their page and see if any of the hangers there are what you need. You can probably get some hangers that will work, but they wont be exactly like the originals.
1 NOS gold plated N10 hanger on evilpay for a 5spd I think. The rear 2 mounts you can still get from walker and you can get a single cat strap and metal cat bracket (walker 35245) from them too.
Rockauto was out of stock once I went to the add to cart. My friend thinks he has one coming at Advance, so we will see.
I found the hanger, hahaha $250. Yeah, I will make something work for that price. I didn't pay attention when I removed the exhaust that was on it, so I will climb under there and see what is left. I know the heat shields were not removed, and it had one hanger at least on the back, so we may be OK.
Thanks everyone again for all of the help. I greatly appreciate it. The car is a 52k mile 5 speed, G92, DX3, N10 car, so it deserves to be done as correctly as reasonable possible...
No one(rockauto, etc ) had this part and my friend(local commercial manager) found the only one Advance had at all. Not saying its the best hanger or whatever, but it is here and is as OEM as I'll reasonable find!
I also checked my exhaust hangers. The rear ones are there and in tact. the one missing is the one off the end of the trans tailhousing.....
That is the 2nd version of that clamp. The 1st style had a nut welded to the clamp and a smaller diam bolt that was longer. They would break a lot, guessing that's why the bolt was updated to something stronger/bigger.
If you noticed, there is a bit of a notch in that clamp at the 2'oclock position. That locates it properly on the pipes.

Didn't notice until you pointed it out! Thanks sir!
Looks just like the spare I tracked down several years ago. Right down to the beat up dirty box. LOL
I had to check to be sure mine was still tucked away for that rainy day...
That patent has been pending a REALLY long time. But I have faith. Someday that patent is going to come through, and when that happens you'll all remember the name... Uhh... Does anyone remember who came up with this funky funky band clamp?

HAHAHA. Was it right beside the t5 N10 exhaust hanger I need?

Maybe... I've got the trans side from a T5, and a complete auto N10 hanger. I'm hopeful that I can just replace the strap in the middle to bolt the two together and have what I need. If not, I'll be cutting and welding something to work.
I've been hording V6 to V8 swap parts for so long, some of the parts I have in storage are old enough to vote. The plan is to stick it all in the green Firebird and clean out my storage area(s). But admittedly I'm moving at a glacial pace. If the Fox body in the driveway would sell it'd sure help, but I made the cardinal error of not putting a 5.0 in it in favor of something more niche and now I'm stuck with it. LOL Oh well.
Hard to find these parts we literally threw away many years ago thinking we will NEVER need this again! Hope to start on my swap this weekend!
Interested to see how the manifolds(the larger correct ones), aftermarket N10 Y-pipe and Walker cat back sounds honestly. I even found one with the correct N10 Y-pipe connection.

I can't relate. I've still got the OE wiper frames, various AIR injection bits, and the L69 aircleaner I had on my 83 Camaro in 1996. People come on here looking for stuff that hasn't been available in decades and they can't find anywhere, then they offer $10.
Interesting... Walker discontinued the N10 intermediate pipe a few years ago. Looks like that kit is using this intermediate pipe that they've cut in the middle. https://www.carid.com/davico/exhaust...pn-526744.html
Just picked up a couple spares myself right from the parts store. Had to order them but no issue. The hanger is not for N10 but im just using the rubber from it.
I pulled out a few different cat hangers the other day to do a comparo. Wow, the dual cat hanger is way different than the single cat versions... Both ends are different. The single cat version sweeps back towards the rear of the car, the dual cat version sweeps forward. The cat side of the bracket has a bend and extension that the single cat version doesn't. A picture is worth a thousand words in this case, I just have to pull them out and snap a couple photos.
I was thinking I could maybe use the T5 side of a single cat hanger with the cat side of a dual cat hanger from an auto, but the trans side of the N10 sweeps forward instead of back. Thought crossed my mind to chop the trans side of a T5 bracket and flip it, weld it back together, but rather than turning two hangers into a hacked together single hanger that's still not entirely right, it'd probably be faster to just fabricate something. Seems like any N10 parts are hard to come by, much less N10 parts from a 5spd car. Suppose it's the product of folks saying a single cat 3" exhaust is just as good for several years. Makes it difficult to recreate something the way GM did it.
